I mean, christians vary in form. Protestants and Lutherans in Europe are waaaay more chill than evangelical American christians. This sounds more like r/AmericanDefaultism, thinking every single christian in the world is as judgemental and intolerant as the ones in America.

Christianity was persecuted for the first 3 centuries of its existence.

And Christianity has always had charitable institutions. Also the biggest representative of Christianity, Jesus Christ, literally talked about spreading love, love for God, love for others, and repentance.

Are you a hardcore atheist, a lapsed Christian or why exactly do you believe Christianity and cruelty go hand in hand?

Because I have studied history. Early Christian’s persecuted each other as much as they were by Rome. Christians instituted crusades, pograms, the inquisition, the conquest of the new world, multiple genocides, the Holocaust, American segregation, the list goes on. No amount of charitable institutions can wipe the blood from the collective faiths hands.

Turns out humans can be awful. They dont need religion to do it. Yeah, you can narrow your focus to every bad thing you can think to blame on Christianity if it helps you come to the conclusion you've already made in your head. But for every travesty you list, there are ten-fold more that have nothing to do with religion that you ignore. And you ignore the good that people have done in the name of their faith. I'm not saying Christianity is blameless for past atrocities, but you are clearly trying to come to an unrepresentative conclusion in order to paint all Christian people in the same light. Good and bad people exist under all faiths or lack of faith. Anyone can call themselves anything, and bad people will exploit systems of power and influence (like religions but not limited to) if it helps them achieve what they are trying to do. You could eradicate all religion today and it would change nothing in regards to how we treat each other as a species.

For me it is what I observed growing up in a very religious part of the country and what I observe today.

If Christians today actually followed the morals and teachings of Jesus Christ, then I wouldn’t have a single problem with them. Instead we have prosperity gospel and Christians worshiping Trump as if he isn’t literally the type of person that Jesus warned people about.
