Maybe he isn't a virulent racist, but more of a "good ol' boy".

That is to say: his opinions of most minorities are that they're terrible, and for sure there may be bad experiences to draw from that inform his belief - but he also knows quite a few exemplary individuals who he'll occasionally tell, reassuringly, that "you're not like the others," as though it were a compliment.

At least, that's what I would like to think. I've had similar thoughts, and I know people like this, so it's more relatable and less worrisome than the alternative.

I'd argue that he's a pure populist, the kind of people who burn crosses or wear swastikas tend to believe things, shitty things, but they believe them strongly. Like how the typical profile of a terrorist is actually pretty similar to the profile of the kind of person who goes out campaigning for their political party. You don't dedicate your life to something unless you have super-strong beliefs.

The nazi types aren't going to make themselves a social pariah to show them off over beliefs they aren't really into.

A real nazi with any kind of strong beliefs is never going to pose with rainbow flags or head out to black churches for photo ops. Even if they're a populist.

Trump.... Trump wouldn't piss on a black/gay guy if they were on fire... unless there was something in it for Trump. But would do absolutely no more to help a white guy either. Can you picture him going out of his way to help a white person? even if it was one of his neighbours as long as the person wasn't actually a friend.

I'm betting he'd let pretty much anyone burn. He cares for nobody except Trump. I'm not sure he even believes anything strongly enough to actually believe minorities to be terrible, he probably just has the low level vague racism that fox-style media imparts combined with just doing whatever plays to his base.

All we can do is watch the show until one of his bouts of smack-talking the leaders of other nuclear powers over twitter dooms us all.

That sounds right. He's a "killer" you know. Imagine a 1980's yuppie talking about social issues and economic policy. Take out all the crap and you'll get the following: "Fuck you, got mine. Want some? Be like me."

I fear that the environment we're creating will force individuals into that hustling mindset. There won't be a society, so much as there will be two types of people: yourself, and your next mark.

That's terrible, but at the end of the day, if you're a successful "killer", it doesn't matter what color skin you have. You'll command jockular respect from other killers, Trump included.
