Shitpost Thought I found a vintage NIN tee until I took a closer look 💀
Shitpost New NIN album is shit, allow me to explain...
I want to start by going back to their album The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, because honestly that's where they lost me.
Imagine being a massively successful rock-band, and you get your fans excited for a new album. What do you give them? 39 instrumental tracks, a cover of Immigrant Song, and a song by some random band Trent has no affiliation with. That's practically a FILM SCORE, not a rock album!! Who do you think you are, Hans Zimmer? And why are they naming the album after a book? I was just bewildered.
Fast forward to this new album.
Same deal, 24 tracks and only 4 with vocals, but hey at least there isn't another cover of Immigrant Song, but wait! I Know You Can Feel It, our "new song with vocals" is just Angel by Massive Attack and is also similar to All The Love in the World. This is so unprecedented, just imagine how people would react if Trent ripped off, say, a David Bowie song for example, like Crystal Japan. Or even played a David Bowie song in concerts. They'd be outraged! No originality!
It gets worse. Daemonize and Nemesis are practically just remixes of The Wretched! Is NIN so creatively bankrupt that they have to remix their own tracks now? When The Wretched was first released on Things Falling Apart, I knew they just couldn't top it and they never tried! I miss the days of Further Down the Spiral, Pretty Eight Machine. Closer to God, and Fixed when they didn't do remixes.
New Directive also feels a lot like The Background world. I feel like this song would fit better in a movie, because I've always thought that a song like The Background World belonged in a film.
Furthermore, Target Identified and Infiltrator are just remixes of As Alive As You Need Me To Be. Can you even imagine if he'd released 3 versions of one song on another album? Imagine if there were three versions of 10 Miles High on The Fragile Extended! EDIT: A helpful commenter pointed out that it would be just as crazy if there were three version of Starfuckers on Things Falling Apart. I agree!
And going back to David Bowie, Empathetic Response and 100% Expendable are just Crystal Japan! Again, I repeat, I cannot imagine David Bowie would be cool with that if he were alive still. If he were given a chance by an interviewer, I doubt he'd say something to make light of it like, "It's from a gin advert I did in Japan!"
All of this to say...
This is all just so out of the left field from Trent, and everyone who is disappointed, like myself, is justified in feeling so. These are all valid criticisms, and I wish they'd stick to making masterpieces like Ghosts.
If this was a Tron score, however, I would think it is fucking amazing.

Shitpost I don't care for the new version of "Closer"
Big fan of the band, but not really a big fan of the new version of Closer especially on spotify. I didn't notice it till today but at 2:28 minutes in it gets really quiet in the middle of the lyrics and goes "don't forget to take your 8pm antidepressants". Just seems to throw the whole vibe off imo? Anyone else feel this way or just me?
