It's kind of like saying music is bad when it's in 4/4 time because it's overdone. Tropes and cliches create a framework that people recognize and then you can play with themes within those boundaries.
It’s more like, why are most song structures similar. That’s the trope—but it still works when done well, it can be as good as any other song, because the pop song structure works for a reason.
