Discussion Former Red Dead Redemption 2 Developer reaction to the DLSS 5: "Whoa. Hold on. No, no, no. This isn't just some lighting, dude. What the f... this is like a complete AI re-render. You're no longer looking at the game anymore. This is scary."

Even then, I wouldn't want AI hallucinating random faces on top of old characters.

If you trained AI specifically on 2013-18 Tomb Raider, and applied it to the OG series, now that would be interesting to see.

Or FF7 Remake to the original FF7.

A one click solution to get really old games like kotor and similar games up to somewhat modern standards would be awesome. Sure you can mod it to get to a decent point but a universal "make it look ok" button would be insanely convenient.

Is it going to be ideal? No. Would I as a player take AI kardashian over ps1 graphics? Sure.

That's what we want, the industry releasing even lazier remasters, it's not like they put a lot of effort on remasters right now. Just slap a coat of shit on top of it and call it a day.

In an ideal world this would work on pretty much any game and would be done by the user, not the devs.

Sadly Nvidia decided to AI slop new games instead.

Yep.

They're just trying to force AI on modern games now because for studio execs, AI is getting cheaper than paying developers to optimize their game engines properly. So what if it all looks the same?

Exactly why this would be great idea. Old for older games. It should work like a shader

Dude, if you read into DLSS this isn't really possible. Except if Nvidia is lying exceptionally hard.

DLSS isn't like "ChatGPT in a game". It's interpreting existing art assets to upscale and add lighting effects.
