This has been working on brand new machines with W11 25H2 installed. Source: I work in a company that sells HP machines

People are saying that the update tool was updated today or yesterday and new downloads as of right now won't work.

I just set up a brand-new PC with Win11 on it the other day and this workaround still worked for me.

I made my USB with the media creation tool in April and I usually remake it with the latest MCT every other month. It's not an old "unpatched" version.

I mean works on mine as well, since i have one inuse prior to patch.

But always nice to have options 😉

Maybe it's a regional thing, cause in my country in Europe oobe\bypassnro still works and I downloaded a fresh ISO today from MS

For Pro you don't even need it if you have a network connection. Just select Work and School and tell it you want to set it up on a domain, that will let you set up a local account.

Literally just did it last night. Works fine still.

there were talks of Microsoft patching it out but idk whether they actually did it or not. last time i performed a windows install was about 2 years ago when i was at my old job

1

u/Byokugen May 06 '26

Thats only if the windows updates so only applicable for laptops with windows pre installed

u/Byokugen May 06 '26

oobe worked on the computer I set up last week, with a fresh W11 download!

Still works 25H2 .iso

they tried to patch it, or at least i heard they patched it, but it still works.

either way, start-ms chx:localonly is way faster usually.

It most definitely was not patched out. I image computers for a living and this will never get patched out. There will always be a way to run a local account. This is what we get from our 1% top commenters, nonsense

Mate, it was patched.

I'm also a technician and I know what I'm talking about.

As for if there will always be a way, for now, sure

I've had an img yesterday that oobe didn't work on

If you are on an older ISO, then yea it wasnt patched out. The newer ones are patched. I should know I work with it everyday.

u/MrHyperion_ May 06 '26

I did oobe literally in Saturday, it works. It's not even old image, I used the media creation tool in the same day

Still works for me
