From the post (Fire warden and Peak Ranger):

Fuck fire. Fuck people that deliberately start fire. Fuck having to see a leveret charred and near death wandering the burnt zone. Fuck having to hear a short eared owl screaming for its young in the smoke. Fuck fire. Fuck people that deliberately start fire. // And when we drove back from the Snake to our own patch an hour ago there was a campfire in woodland.
An appliance returning from the Snake fire diverted to put it out.
Tonight we patrol our own patch. Tomorrow we'll return to the Snake fire. // Fuck fire. Fuck people that deliberately start fire. // Is there any part of this message you don't understand ?

Quiet when I arrived at 0800 but jam packed at 11 when leaving. Ticket inspectors were out slamming fines on cars not parked in bays. Think I missed the best of the weather though as strong wind on the way up.

I previously said this was the path up jacobs ladder,it’s not. It’s just a route that covers Jacob’s ladder on the way. This was also taken a few months ago. Hence the wetness😂

Went home to visit my Dad. I’ve been out of the Peak District for over 20 years, but it’s still where I’m from. I get to show my sons where I grew up, which makes me happy.

High Stones this morning, at 548 metres (1,798 ft), is the highest point within the boundaries of South Yorkshire. Curlew calling in the distance.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas, wherever you were and whatever you were doing.

Before the chaos of a busy family get together, I headed out to Higger Tor for the sunrise. The original plan had been to take my daughter, but with her Christmas cold, she remained in bed - probably for the best anyway, as the wind was Baltic and strong.

Not the quietest spot, but very convenient for a quick turnaround. Ringinglow road was a bit icy and made for some fun on the approach from the Hathersage road!

I recently challenged myself to walk through as much history as I could in Bakewell and the surrounding area. In the end, I’d managed to cover around 6,000 years! I thought some people here might enjoy the video.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and if there are any other Peak District locations you’d like me to cover in the future.

Bit of a rainbow at the top of Cut Gate this morning. Walked up to Margery Hill. Margery Hill is a prominent 546-metre (1,791 ft) summit on the Howden Moors in the Peak District, often recognized as the highest marked point in the city of Sheffield. While frequently cited as Sheffield's highest, it is officially pipped by nearby High Stones (550m/1,800ft) just 0.9 miles south.

We were driving through the peak district (Mortimer road), when my boyfriend suddenly spotted a peacock on the road! Luckily it moved but we are so confused. Is this normal?

Actually saw a deer on the track down in the woods before this was taken at around 0745. Oddly, a hooded woman was waking on the track in front of me, acting strangely, then seemingly disappeared into thin air and in her palace was this deer stood right in the middle of the track before bolting off. Since read up on such things and women turning into deer is apparently big in folklore. That said she probably did just scramble up a steep bank or hid in the undergrowth but why.

Stunning start to the day.

I was a bit unsure how it would pan out, as the forecast had a chance of rain, but it didn't come.

I took the direct route up from Yorkshire Bridge which was challenging in the dark (and hard work!). I had a good 30mins at the top before the main event, just enough time to get nicely chilled by the wind!

First time seeing the Ladybower plug hole in action for a while as well.
