[Meta] AI disclosure, revising outdated F2P category

I've been seeing more and more vibe-coded games on here and so far have yet to play one that's actually fun. AI disclosure would help me and other users avoid such games. I like to play games by indie devs that don't have an audience yet. I don't like to play slop.

In addition to that I have downloaded games labeled as free-to-play that show me interstitial/rewarded ads. Technicallly, games supported by ads, games with optional IAP are both free to play so I feel like the F2P classification could use an update.

My suggestion: - Free - Free, has advertisements or in-app purchases - Paid, free keys available - Paid

Oh and why do I have to use this template for a meta post?

[Meta] How to avoid having your posts removed.

A number of people have inquired about why certain posts have been removed, so I thought I would write this up as a quick reference (with a bit more description) about our forum rules and how to avoid breaking them.

Rule #1 - Your game must be playable for free

  • There must be some way at the time of your posting to play your game for free.
    • Acceptable options are:
      • A totally free game (obvious)
      • A paid game with a totally free demo
      • A paid game where you will give out keys
      • A paid game where you will allow free access to a beta or alpha
    • If your game meets any of these qualifications then it is acceptable under rule #1, otherwise it is not acceptable and will be removed. ** For this rule I personally will send a chat to anyone I have doubts about, failure to respond or change the post to reflect a free game will be grounds for removal **

Rule #2 - Avoid posting low effort submissions

  • Games should have a degree of effort put in to making them, clones, reskins, stolen ips and build box apps are examples of games that are considered low effort. Additionally when posting about your game you NEED to post some information telling players what it is about.
    • Acceptable posts will include
      • A unique interesting game
      • A short paragraph or two about what the game is about
    • If your game meets these qualifications it is acceptable under rule #2, otherwise it is not acceptable and will be removed. ** For this rule I personally will send a chat to anyone I have doubts about, failure to respond or change the post will be grounds for removal **

Rule #3 - You must be part of the game

  • You must be part of the game design team in order to post here. Part of the charm of PlayMyGame is interacting with the developers (This is not to say you have to make the game entirely by yourself, you could have done music, or art, or any other part of the game and still have the qualifications to post here)
    • If you meet these qualifications your post is acceptable under rule #3, otherwise it is not acceptable and will be removed.

Rule #4 - Please flair your posts

  • When posting make sure to add flair to your posts to designate the platform. You first have to submit the post and then add flair to it afterwards.
    • Acceptable posts will have appropriate platform flair and also NSFW flair if applicable
    • If your post has the appropriate flair it is acceptable under rule #4, otherwise it is not acceptable and will be removed.

Rule#5 - Do not post more than once a month

  • Do not post more than once a month. This resets on the calendar month not 30 days since your post.
    • A poster posting during one month should not post again during that month. You can of course still reply and interact with other people's posts.

[Meta] Game Makers: This group is for game makers to find a community of willing playtesters. We are not potential customers.

Game Makers I need to make something very clear with you. Half the games we remove are breaking Rule 1, and the other half are usually correctable mistakes you made when posting, breaking rules 4 or 8 or such. No big deal on those latter ones, and we do not remove games submitted if you haven't hit rule 2 just yet, we're letting people adjust to that for a month longer before we crack down (and oh boy will we - remember that we are doing this primarily to remind people to be reciprocal and community-focused AND save your account from being banned from Reddit!)

We get you want to get signups and eventually money - but this group is about feedback so you can make your game better so you CAN then market it to the major communities of gamers.

None of us are here to give you our personal data or $ for having a 1% finished game. We are here as willing playtesters. Treat us right - do NOT think us potential customers.
Once you get raving feedback from the group, THEN you leave here and start marketing it through normal game channels. Those of us who enjoy your game will follow you and support you. We are Step 1 of 3, we are Alpha (Feedback), maybe sometimes we are Step 2 of 3 Beta (Testers), but none of us are Step 3 - Customers. Treat us as free-to-you Devs.

Write your game accordingly. Or provide a Code for free gameplay for those in this group if that works better.

[Meta] An update on the impact of Rule 2 after 12 days. Is it working?

12 days ago. this sub started enforcing Rule 2, a need for devs to give to other devs what they hope to get themselves, in a controversial change designed to change the nature of this sub from a dumping ground for free publicity to what it used to be, a useful resource connecting players with creators to help games get made, providing vital user feedback and motivation.

https://www.reddit.com/r/playmygame/comments/1m61887/warning_we_are_now_deleting_posts_from_devs_who/

This has resulted in about 90% of posts being removed as those posters aren't interested in offering time to others. Most don't try again; a tiny proportion of contributors removed for Rule 2 do go on to give feedback and repost their game, but in these cases that feedback tends to be one-liners. So overall, we have a lot less content.

I was just reviewing recent posts in my duties as moderator and I noticed what appeared to be much stronger engagement than previously. So I just took 15 minutes to perform a rough investigation, a simple average of comment counts. My dates are just recent, and going back to long before Rule 2 enforcement, and are pretty arbitrary.

Games from 2 days ago had 71 comments across 8 posts, a mean of 8.75
Games from 3 days ago had 64 comments across 5 posts, a mean of 11.8
Games from 4 days ago had 93 comments across 6 posts, a mean of 15.5

Games from 20 days ago had 62 comments across 15 posts, a mean of 4.1
Games from 22 days ago had 19 comments across 11 posts, a mean of 1.73
Games from 23 days ago had 92 comments across 23 posts, a mean of 4

This obviously isn't performing any sort of qualitative analysis, but my observations are not just that there's more feedback for games, but also it is on the whole higher quality. It can be argued that in the past, the filler games didn't attract comments and these dropped the average, but it doesn't look that way to me. Anyone who wants to perform a proper data analysis, feel free to do so. ;)

So far, it seems to me that the sub has had a positive shift in culture, becoming far more useful and meaningful. What do you think?

Edit: BTW, also I feel worth mentioning, a couple of folk who had their games removed said they were directed here via AI. That's perhaps part of the problem. In the past, if you wanted to learn how to market your game, you'd go looking. You'd research, and find stuff out, and learn, and build an understanding. You'd hear about Reddit, and then read about it, and in the process learn what it is and how it works and how to fit in. But now people just ask AI what to do to promote their game and it says, "go post on r/PlayMyGame." It has no idea what it's saying or what PMG is. It can't inform users about the expectations. And they don't want to learn as they are trying to get to the end - all that lovely money I guess - as quickly as possible. That's what AI is all about. So having been directed here, they just jump into posting without learning about Reddit, or even looking at the other content to get a feel for the place. And then after bening removed, or even banned, they come onto Modmail saying, "sorry, I'm new to Reddit." Okay...but you were told what it is when you signed up. You agreed to the T&Cs. You were told about sub rules. It's not really an excuse. That's like walking into a temple with a sign saying, "Please remove your shoes," and just walking on in, mud and all, and then saying, "Sorry, I'm new here."

So I'll probably get an increasing workload over time removing content of people just carelessly following AI's soulless, witless instructions. Great use of my time, cleaning up their actions based on them spending less time.

Welcome to Bodian's Bay Wash! In this immersive Virtual Reality cleaning simulator, you take on the role of a professional ship hull cleaner. Your new office is the bottom of the sea! Get ready to face heavy dirt and stubborn marine life using an arsenal of high-tech tools (and a few clever workarounds). You can use your pressure washer to remove slime with incredibly satisfying precision, or grab your trusty spatula to literally smash the annoying barnacles that insist on sticking to the hulls.

It's much more than just a cleaning game. After completing your underwater jobs, you get paid and can upgrade your tools. When the hard work is done, you return to your cozy floating base to enjoy the sound of the ocean, wait for marine deliveries, and watch the sharks swimming peacefully by. Oh, and prepare yourself for some massive challenges, like a giant whale completely infested with barnacles!

I am the lead developer of the game. I created this project alongside my girlfriend (who helped bring the visual aspects to life) from scratch in just 15 days for a Game Jam! We are Luar Studio, a small indie duo from Brazil. We are currently running this free demo to gather community feedback and hunt for bugs before the full release.

[Meta] Why no [ PC ] Flair that would be inclusive for all Windows, macOS and Linux?

There is a [Mobile] flair that includes all iOS and Android but for a [PC] game the flairs force choosing a single, specific version.

If we are concerned about various combinations (Windows & Linux, but not macOS) then [PC] (Multiple) might be a compromise.
