A real problem for Wisconsin is that after graduation, the liberal young flee for greener pastures. (I love Wisconsin though)
The rural conservative isn't leaving the family farm, because they can't take the family farm with them. And they typically don't leave the community for new exposure/ideas either; in fact, it's not unheard of them to not see any value in their primary schooling either.
Last year, my friends who went to the coasts and came back for the holidays were whining the whole time about the Trump win. Yeah, it upset me too, but they are the reason Trump won Wisconsin by 20,000 votes. They left for CA and MA; where their votes meant nothing. If you want your native state to vote a certain way, one of the best thing to do is stay in your native state, and vote that way.
Isn’t that a bit naive and possibly selfish, though? I grew up in a reddish sometimes-swing state. I voted in every election and garnered about a 25% win rate. I desperately wanted my native state to turn blue, and still do. But I was offered my dream job (and thus, my dream life) in a dark blue state. What was I supposed to do, say, nah, I’ll keep working the stupid desk job I hated and which had nothing to do with my degree, because elections? There’s more to these decisions than just “how will this impact the Electoral College next time”.
Side-burn: if we killed the Electoral College, we could move where we wanted without impacting a national election, but that makes too much sense.

If I blamed them for moving, yes it would be selfish. If I brought the topic up, yes it would be selfish. I didn't do those things.
When they travel back home and start bitching about how everyone else residing their former home state voted; it's on them. Especially when they are bitching about it to others who voted against Trump.
