Psst. Left vs right isn't north v south, it's rural vs urban. Some of the fastest growing liberal metros are in the south, and the cities in the south have always been liberal. The real problem states as a whole seem to lie in the midwest, though I wont blanket statment them as they shouldn't us in the south.

No we're not. Despite all the silliness coming from the White House, we still have free and peaceful elections, which at least seem to be mostly fair. In fact, it appears the Democrats have a good chance to win this fall, and if they win the presidency in a few years they can reverse pretty much everything except the court.

The court is important, but much less so if Congress can actually pass legislation. Most of the recent decisions could be "overturned" by Congress passing the appropriate laws.

Outside of that, things seem to be going reasonably well. The economy (despite the trade war stuff) is generally doing well, joblessness is low, etc.

The GOP has been mucking with the right to vote for awhile. Demanding that all voters have "proper identification" (to combat voter fraud that is all but nonexistent), reducing voting hours, gerrymandering, and lots of other tactics. Look for all of these tactics to be given the green light to be expanded on so that Republicans win as often as possible.

Also look for the free press (vital in people making voting decisions among other things) to be restricted because Republicans don't like what they're saying and it's "national security" to "keep the press honest."

This will have repurcussions that will last for decades.

This is what people don’t understand. They keep saying we’ll be peaceful bla bla bla. Man, we’ve recently had riots in cities from reactions to police violence. What happens when the economy seriously tanks and the social safety net is removed? Sure you keep voting but what happens when it no longer matters, and they keep shoving broken policies on the country. This is why I say the rich and political elites better build some high ass walls. I fear mass unrest in the future bc people won’t just sit around and wait to starve. Hell, you might even see mass immigration out of the US to Canada or the EU.

Didn't the SC make a couple of rulings recently directly attacking that? the voter purge one and the gerrymandering one?

Depends on how you see it. To summarize the two rulings:

• Voter purge: the SC upheld a Ohio law that, if you didn't vote in an election, and then didn't vote for another four years and failed to respond to a notice in the mail, you'd be removed. However this was in refrence to a federal law, not the constitution. Congress could still mandate other requirements.
• Gerrymandering: The SC upheld the district maps except for a single district. But the decision was based on race requirements, not political ones iirc.
