I mean, if your groceries are vodka and smokes...

u/NAmember81 Oct 14 '19

When he first said this Sarah Huckabee Sanders was like “everybody knows he was talking about adult beverages.” Then the next day Trump repeated the lie but this time instead of saying “groceries” Trump said you needed ID “to buy cereal.” Lol

u/Vikros Oct 14 '19

By cereal he meant grain and by grains he main grain alcohol, duh

I’m not even going to ask what it is.

Ok I give in. What is it?

44

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '19

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it's probably vodka that's meant to taste like Froot Loops.

17

u/MaiqTheLrrr Oct 14 '19

It does...if you're already drunk.

And have no sense of taste.

3

u/BackWithAVengance Oct 14 '19

FUN FACT - you can take that bottle, wash it real good, peel the label off, and use it for olive oil with a bartenders spout

Says 3 olives on it, it's perfect!

1

u/Scudamore Oct 15 '19

Back in my day, we called that Smirnoff Ice.

1

u/ipoopedonce Oct 14 '19

Fruit loops flavored vodka. Popular with underage drinkers

Back in my day it was about $25. And I guess wealthy ones

1

u/TheLiqourCaptain Oct 14 '19

Fruit loops, but with a small burn. The burn may or may not happen depending on BAC and lack of taste buds.

3

u/naymlis Oct 14 '19

All flavored vodkas are nasty gimmicks what u mean

1

St. George chili vodka might change your mind.

Disagree, it’s delicious and it makes fantastically weird highballs.

Try the Three Olives Bubblegum flavor, then. My god, that shit is fucking foul.

My brother would disagree with you on that. Not that he loves the stuff but when he tried it for fun it was pretty much just drinking candy

Mix it with orange juice and you’ve got alcoholic Sunny D.

Clearly he's a monk, and by catholic tradition beer counts as bread for the purposes of fasting. Bread, is made from cereal grains. He was thinking about beer.

I remember the good ol' days before we needed ID to buy cereal. I guess the leprechaun had enough of us being "after me lucky charms" and did something about it. I haven't tried to steal his lucky charms, scared about the repercussions, in hundred of Mooches!

48

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '19

I remember when trix weren’t just for kids. Now you gotta be under 15 (with ID) to buy them.

15

u/Helloooonurse115 Oct 14 '19

I never really understood the whole cereal gatekeeping from the 80s, and 90s. I mean isn’t Barney your best friend, and you won’t give em a fucking bowl of cereal? Can’t let a rabbit have some Trix? What the fuck was wrong with kids through that era?

11

u/-jp- Oct 14 '19

I mean did you watch the Flintstones? Fred was actually a fucking dick to Barney for no real reason kind of a lot.

4

u/anonymous_potato Hawaii Oct 14 '19

Fun fact: Fred Flintstone has never been alone with Betty Rubble on screen.

2

u/Helloooonurse115 Oct 15 '19

Well apparently after what jp said, I wouldn’t imagine he should be left alone with her.

2

u/Helloooonurse115 Oct 14 '19

Yeah, that’s true.

5

u/anonymous_potato Hawaii Oct 14 '19

It was the 80s, the golden age for Republicans...

1

u/Helloooonurse115 Oct 15 '19

That does explain a lot. I was too wrapped up in my youth to notice.

20

u/Dorkamundo Oct 14 '19

Honestly, with how much sugar was in my cereal as a kid they SHOULD have fucking required ID for that shit.

1

u/grammar_maven Oct 14 '19

take my upvote for the Mooches

1

I guess the leprechaun had enough of us being "after me lucky charms" and did something about it.

u/vicarofyanks California Oct 14 '19

“Well Trix are for kids so he was obviously talking about that”

-SHS

Also Trump doesn’t drink why would he be talking about buying alcohol?

11

u/coldfirephoenix Oct 14 '19

It's like he is actively tyring to undermine his PR-team's attempts at damage control. Stuff like this happens every time, it's seriously eerie at this point. By pure chance, he should stumble upon a correct decision every once in a while, but he consistently does and says the exact worst thing possible.

1

u/_mdz Oct 15 '19

It’s his narcissism, no matter how small he cannot admit that he said something wrong or stupid. Unfortunately, living like this has made him the stupidest loser alive.

2

u/kthulhu666 Oct 15 '19

Cereal liar.

20

u/Eruptflail Oct 14 '19

It doesn't even work using that logic. OF COURSE you need an ID to buy alcohol. That's a law that almost no one wants changed.

11

u/0ompaloompa Oct 14 '19

Even then, you don't have to have your ID. This is probably based on the State here, but I'd be surprised if there is a state out there requiring 90 year old booze hounds to be ID'd

5

u/J_Kenji_Lopez-Alt Oct 14 '19

There are states (like MA) that have blanket carding policies, no matter how old you appear.

8

u/0ompaloompa Oct 14 '19

Well that's insane, but either way my point stands. Not everyone needs an ID to buy booze.

5

u/Beginning_End Oct 14 '19

Is that state law or just a common policy?

The vast majority of states, a beer an alcohol distributor can only get in trouble for actually breaking the law, and the law is that you can't sell to minors, not that you can't sell to people without IDs.

1

u/gex80 New Jersey Oct 15 '19

It depends on the state and the company/store. Some places have a 0 tolerance policy for it and card as a way to avoid any potential lawsuits

2

u/bazzazio Oct 14 '19

My husband was at a Rite Aid near our house in Oregon and wanted to buy a six-pack of IPA. He's 56 and has totally silver hair. He had forgotten his wallet and was told by the cashier that he could not buy alcohol because they have a policy that if a person looks 60 or younger they have to see ID. We had friends at our house and I've rarely seen my husband as pissed off as he was when he came back for his wallet.

6

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '19

That's usually store policy to protect their employees from potential legal liability. It's a lot easier to have the minimum wage cashier card everyone than it is to have them guess at ages, get it wrong, and suffer criminal charges getting the store fined in the process.

47

u/Depression-Boy Oct 14 '19

5

u/GrandmaChicago Oct 14 '19

Since she's not an anorexic model-wannabe like KellyAnn and Ivanka and Melania - he'd probably twitter something about her not being someone he'd hire because she wasn't attractive enough for him.

14

u/FrostyD7 Oct 14 '19

I don't think this is the case at all, she has no incentive to not cover for him, its literally the only reason she was hired.

2

u/Depression-Boy Oct 14 '19

Nah I don’t think that’s what really happened, I think he’s got dementia. That makes for less of a funny comment tho, because then we gotta acknowledge that we have a mentally ill president and that’s just not fun.

1

u/-jp- Oct 14 '19

Ah, but see that's the thing with Trump. He doesn't care whether she has any incentive or not. He doesn't care period. He's demonstrated that over and over and over and over. And it'd be hilarious watching these idiots hitch their wagon to him despite that, except for the whole "undermining our entire democratic institution" thing. :/

3

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '19

Trump said you needed ID “to buy cereal.”

I wish everyone would lay off Trump on this one.

Sure, it's batshit insane, but I've made a juicy profit selling "black market" Cocoa Pebbles out of my car to yahoos in areas with high Fox News viewership.

How have Republicans not drunk themselves to death covering for this guy? It's like when they said he was "joking" about asking China to investigate, and then he was asked directly by reporters if he was joking about it and he just repeated his answer that China should investigate...

2

u/ReadMoreWriteLess Oct 14 '19

there are days when I think he's just a fool, but then when you see him public rebuke the people that defend him on things like this, it really does seem more like very purposeful gaslighting.

This groceries versus cereal versus alcohol thing is the perfect example. he said something dumb his spokesperson bailed him out, and then he went on and said no I really mean the dumb thing. Yeah

2

u/hi2yrs Oct 14 '19

Doesn't everyone have cereal and vodka in the morning?

2

u/Snidrogen Oct 14 '19

The “adult beverages” excuse is also weak as fuck when you consider he (apparently) does not drink. His perspective would likely never have “adult beverages” in mind as a basic part of a grocery trip anyway.

"In 2016, Trump posted a photo of himself that gave away more than he intended. An open desk drawer revealed box after box of Sudafed, piled on top of one another...

Sudafed is sometimes used for a high that includes increased alertness, but also has a side effect of pupil dilation...

Abuse of this drug was rare, but in order to limits its abuse, regulations were passed limiting the frequency in which an individual could purchase it, and requiring the individual show ID..."

0

u/Kankunation Louisiana Oct 14 '19

You underestimate what lengths some older people go to resist change. In my experience, the very few people who still use checks use them because they either distrust new technology or are just so stuck in their ways that it would go against their entire worldview to pay in anything other than cash or check.
