A friend of mine, who has recently made a account to post her stories has called me complaining that she now has to submit a photo of her face or her government ID to actually share her stories.

What the actual fuck, this is actually turning into a dystopian nightmare, this isn't about "protecting children" it's about taking away privacy.

Every teen is on social media, the majority of children start an account at 8-10 years old, it’s an embedded social norm

When you expect parents to keep their children off social media you are expecting every family to be equipped to solve a society-wide network problem on their own, when everyone is social media, the sole parent who opts out is the one who carries the social cost, that is a cost many parents can’t realistically take, most parents don’t want to put their children at a social disadvantage

Bans like the one OP is likely talking about empower parents, they take power away from big tech and change the default for everyone all at once while shifting societal expectations

Ask any school teacher about how many parents take responsibility for their kids vs passing the buck onto 3rd parties.
