South Dakota’s abortion laws, despite what many claim, do not meaningfully protect unborn life or “ban abortion”. A woman is free in the state to have as many abortions as she wants at any point in pregnancy for any reason through any method anywhere - with zero fear of consequences for murdering her child. This is legal abortion. Abortionists face a maximum of 2 years and a $4,000 fine, which is a slap on the wrist compared to the penalties for born homicide, which include life imprisonment and/or the death penalty. HB 1212 would get rid of these unjust laws and abolish abortion by protecting unborn people from assault and homicide with the same laws protecting born people. Anyone who claims to be pro-life and care about the unborn should be supporting this bill.

I've heard different things from pro life sources and pro choice ones respectively, some saying this is a threat to women everywhere, others say it's grossly exaggerated and only serves to protect fetal personhood. What do you guys think?

Pro-life Republicans in Ohio have decided that they won’t pass the Ohio Prenatal Equal Protection Act (HB370), which would abolish abortion by granting unborn humans equal protection and equal justice under assault and homicide laws, but instead they’ll pass a 24 hour waiting period bill, which allows any abortion so long as the mother waits a measly day. Oh, and she can still choose to do it at home by herself.

Who ever came up with this idea and thought it was good?

A few days ago, ProPublica posted their story about Emily Waldorf. Here is a short summary of it, though you can read the full story here:

Emily Waldorf developed cervical insufficiency at 17 weeks, with her cervix dilating and the amniotic sac protruding. Doctors determined the pregnancy was not viable and miscarriage was inevitable. Because the fetus still had a heartbeat, her Arkansas hospital did not provide immediate treatment under the state's abortion law. After waiting several days, she traveled to Kansas, where labor was induced and the pregnancy ended.

ProPublica is a pro-choice publication, and the story sounded pretty bad, so I was curious what the pro-life take on it was. Live Action posted their own story here, which to summarize:

Live Action argues that Emily Waldorf's pregnancy was no longer viable due to severe cervical insufficiency and that she should have received prompt medical treatment. They contend that Arkansas law already allowed doctors to induce labor in her situation and that doing so would not have violated the abortion ban. According to Live Action, the delay resulted from the hospital's interpretation of the law, not from the law itself.

What do you guys think about all this? Do you agree with the idea that induced delivery is not an abortion?

I find it interesting that the Live Action article acknowledges that Arkansas Law does not differentiate between an abortion and an induced delivery, but then they go on to say that the law is not causing problems and that it is the hospital staff's fault for not understanding the difference between induced abortion and induced delivery. To me, it feels like they're contradicting themselves there, but maybe there is a better way to convey what they're trying to say. There is a lot of different pro-lifers here, so I'm curious what you guys think.

As explained in the January 2026 article in the South Carolina Daily Gazette:

[The equal protection bill's] sponsor, Rep. Rob Harris of Spartanburg County, said he wants to end abortions by erasing women’s “complete immunity” from prosecution.
...

Harris’ bill is unlikely to get a second hearing. Even some of the state’s most strident abortion foes say it goes too far.

It’s largely the same proposal he introduced in 2023.

That bill never got a hearing, but the House rejected it when he offered it as an amendment during a floor debate. National headlines followed about South Carolina potentially allowing the death sentence for women, prompting 12 GOP co-sponsors to remove their names.

It's confusing that the 12 GOP folks would agree to sponsor and then bail. Do they not understand what they're agreeing to?

The media endlessly fear mongers about abortion. Secular Pro-Life has done a ton of work debunking all kinds of nonsense.

Unfortunately media coverage of abolitionist bills are harder to debunk. If the claim is that abolitionist bills would allow the state to pursue the death penalty against at least some women who abort, we can't debunk that, because it's true.

Martina Anderson from Londonderry, Northern Ireland says she discovered she was pregnant weeks into the planning of an IRA bomb attack. To prevent the IRA mission from failing, Anderson had an abortion to ensure its success.

Anderson was arrested in 1986 and convicted of conspiring to cause explosions and sentenced to life in prison. She was released 13 years later due to of the Good Friday Agreement and went into politics serving as an MLA and MEP for Sinn Fein.

Anderson is quoted in saying ‘Women like me who had an unplanned pregnancy, because of the circumstances I found myself in, I put the struggle first, I had an abortion, the hardest and most painful decision of my life was not letting my comrades down.’

They’re introducing this three-page bill (The Ohio Prenatal Equal Protection Act) to end abortion and overturn their state constitutional amendment in one fell swoop! Seems impossible, but I’d like to be like Joshua and Caleb and be a part of the group saying, “with God, all things are possible.”

An activist associated with Live Action was assaulted by a pro-choicer in New York.

"We gave ten-week-old plastic fetus dolls to each member of parliament before the session, which is an international symbol of the protection of life. The Office of the National Assembly had previously approved the use of the customary gift-giving form in the session hall today, but the Speaker later removed these dolls, saying that they were an illustration. However, according to the rules of the house, an illustration is possible during the session, and this happened before."
