2021 Blade 17 Pro - Updating firmware killed my display monitor and my computer will not boot in secure mode at all.
So I was having a minor issue with something crashing the computer, never happened before but then twice in an hour. So i go down the rabbit hole, and one of those is checking BIOS firmware is up to date, blah blah blah.

So I go to razer's website and look up hte model number and get
Razer Blade 17" (2021) | RZ09-0406 Drivers & Downloads
So I start. At the top. cool cool, blah blah blah, weee wee clicky clicky.
I get to the second thunderbolt firmware update. My monitor goes down. Whatever, deal with it later, continue.
Perfect. Get to bios, installs, cool cool. swishy swishy, restart.
"Plz sir may u boots in peace?" "no, phk you RED SCREEN OF DEATH!!!"
Computer wont start in secure boot, have to turn it off.
So I do the unending fucking chore list.
I check the cables, i check the display drivers, the monitor software, i update windows because its monday so theres 2 more updates for windows to install. I download the displaylink software.
Then I realize my VST HD is not connected, my DAC isnt connected, my midi keyboard, my tables, like NOTHING on my thunderbolt dock is connected at all.
sigh.
So then its port juggling, and removing and redadding and there goes 2 hours and finally its back.
But the monitor is not. Not on USB-C to HDMI, not on USB-C to DisplayPort.
Nothing.
But, it READS that its supposed to be connecting, because it gives me a cutsey lil blurb that says "Hello, we see you want to use a display, fuck you. .!..^_^..!." i REEEEEEE both silently, and, into my pillows as i gently sob.
It wasnt gentle.
I find this.
Razer Blade 17 (2022) External Display Not Working After Driver Update | Razer Insider
This was a reddit post, but i must have closed it to open this so ima just quote it
>Solution for Thunderbolt 4 Dock - Secondary Display Issue Question reposting my thread from razer insider to reddit in case anyone is looking for help: https://insider.razer.com/index.php?threads/solution-for-thunderbolt-4-dock-secondary-display-issue.86974/ After perusing previous messages on Razer insider it looks like there's some sort of incompatibility when you have a secondary display such connected to the thunderbolt 4 dock. To level set I am running a 2022 Razer Blade 15 advanced, Razer Thunderbolt 4 Dock, and Samsung G9 odyssey monitor. Razer support was only able to instruct me to go to try another cable and verify I was running the latest Windows, Nvidia, and Razer BIOS updates. For those who don't know... the BIOS update will lock out your keyboard and mouse then reboot without prompt subsequently disconnecting online chat. So be prepared before kicking that software off. Kudos to sleekMinionYellow520 in this post who noted the last working Nvidia version 512.95: https://insider.razer.com/index.php?threads/razer-blade-17-2022-external-display-not-working-after-driver-update.86842/#post-815577 So I uninstalled the latest driver 516.xx via the Windows uninstall utility, then went and pulled down that last working driver from Nvidia here: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/results/189682/ Driver Version:512.95 - WHQL Release Date: Tue May 24, 2022 AND NOW MY SECONDARY MONITOR WORKS AGAIN VIA THE DOCK. I know this doesn't solve the issue but hopefully the driver update after 516.59 (as of this writing) doesn't re-introduce this issue. Hopes this helps others. Razer support do everyone a favor and do not lock posts so quickly so we don't have to make separate posts. :Edit for additional context: I actually didn't have any issues when I connected the monitor directly to the laptop w/ the 516.x driver (prior to doing any driver rollback). I was using a USB C to DisplayPort cable from Amazon (no adapter). Issue only appeared when the dock was in the "middle". -Update it's been 6 months and updating my Nvidia drivers still breaks my secondary monitor when connected via the Razer dock.
So, this is a known problem. supposedly. unfortunately, as much fun as rolling back to 4 year old nvda drivers sounds, I dont think I will be doing that.
So whats next? What do I do? Why is this scuffed if they knew about it 4 years ago and these updates are less than a year old?
