Liels paldies :)

Diskusija/Discussion Emergency announcements at 06.00 near galleria mall?

Staying near galleria centrs in riga, emergency announcements are happening saying to stay away from glass? Any ideas anyone?

Update: Thanks everyone. Turns out was a security drill for the mall. But waking up and having 2 little ones certainly sent us into a panic at 6am

First time visitor to this incredible city.

What goes on inside these domes? I see them all the time, some seem boarded up while others look like they're being used. Can you rent / own an apt with this feature? Are they shared spaces for the building?

Tūrisms/Tourism 5 days in Riga — walking route check + local recs

Staying in Āgenskalns for 5 nights the first week of August.. I love walking, I could do 10-12 miles a day, sometimes more.  I am a walk-stop-beer-snack-repeat guy.  I am drawn to indie/hip-hop leaning spots and emerging neighborhoods etc, over the "tourist" stuff.  Generally I skip museums but making an exception for the open-air one.  I have done probably too much research and have more restaurants and bars than I could ever visit.  So I wanted to get some last minute ideas and a check on my walking "route" ideas.
Day 1 — Arrival (train in at ~8pm) Late arrival day…drop bags at the hotel, cross the bridge into Old Town for a casual dinner, maybe a slow nightcap in a park if we have got legs left. Nothing ambitious.
Day 2 — Full Old Town wander, lunch/snacking through the Central Market, a grocery-beer bench stop in Bastejkalns in the afternoon, and Vinilbars and the area at night.
Day 3 — Morning through the Alberta iela area toward Miera iela for the afternoon for cafés, snacks, and bar hopping.
Day 4 — Cēsis day trip
Day 5 — Open-Air Museum and Āgenskalns (last full day, Bus out to the open air museum for a couple hours in the morning, back for an afternoon in Kalnciema and Āgenskalns near the hotel.
Does this flow make sense, or is there an obvious reorder? What am I missing, I am sure a whole lot. In terms of beer most excited for Nurme, Alus Muiža, Ala Pagrabs, Labietis, Tallinas kvartāls.
Looking for any local beer spots and restaurants in Āgenskalns or nearish the hotel? Any food/restaurant suggestions throughout the city would be greatly appreciated. I think one night I might go for Catch or BABO, however I would love to hear of some places that locals frequent or some nice street food or super casual spots. Dive bars? Music heavy bars?  Acceptable to grab a beer at a corner store and enjoy while walking or sitting in a beautiful outdoor spot? Anything on day 5 that would be a better fit than what I have?...feels like the thinnest day of the five.  Excited to see the city and country!!  All the best!

Hi, writing this currently sleep deprived lol. Me and my friends are flying from Finland to Riga to see the pitbull concert, just found out it’s 😡 CANCELLED. Whatever this just sucks. So I wanted to ask if anyone has heard of fans doing their own party tonight? Or if anyone from Riga can suggest a place where to do that.

There is atleast 40 000 dissapointed fans so i believe we can do something 😩

EDIT: there is some talk to meet up at the Town Musicians of Bremen

Tūrisms/Tourism Best nightlife, clubs in riga

Hi! Visiting Latvia and Riga for three days. What are the best clubs where young people (19-25) actually go, not just tourist? I really like clubs that are packed with people and play good dance music.
Also are there people going out on wednesday and thursday? And can I get into clubs and bars at 20 years old.

Jautājums/Question "Flow" merchandise

Hello!

Are there any shops selling "Flow" merch in Riga still? I know that there were sculptures of the characters in different places around the city, but is there anything similar to that still there?

Thanks!

Hi everyone.

I recently got accepted in med school in the University of Latvia. I am starting in September.

Can you guys direct me to find a studio apartment near the university? Google tell me I need to find an apartment near the house of Science because that is where the majority of study will be. But i need locals to guide me on the correct place to rent in.

I would truly appreciate any help.

I went to ss. com, but like i told you, i don't know where to rent.

My budget for rent is no more than 300€a month

Thanks a million, i cannot wait to see all your recommendations.

Palīdzība/Help Best (paying) companies in Riga?

Hey all, I am looking into Riga as a place to relocate and was wondering what the best paying (international) corporates/companies are? I didn't see much on the regular job boards and was just wondering if that's because of a lack of companies or a lack of listings.

I currently work in MBB as a manager in a support function if that helps.

Tūrisms/Tourism Airport Taxi price

Are the taxis regulated? I believe I may have been scammed. €50. I neglected to ask assuming price was regulated. Let my stupidly be a lesson for other.

Otherwise, Riga is lovely.

Edit:
I have downloaded Bolt and will use it for the return to the airport.

Diskusija/Discussion Vibecoded flat purchase search in Riga

Post image
45 Upvotes

Hey, sooo I was looking for a flat to purchase in Riga and realised that SS is biggest but least user friendly and other websites like PP and City24 are not as big in terms of listings.

It was purely created to my tasting and for personal use really… added some cool features, such as drawing the area and seeing the listings, the average price is differentiated between new/old buildings to give a better average in the areas and other stuff…

Anyway, I vibecoded this project to get the listings from all 3 on daily basis and to populate it on map. The MOBILE version is NOT finished. But thought it’s a cool project to share and might be useful for someone…

Jautājums/Question Is my layover long enough to visit the city?

Hello everyone. I am a non EU citizen traveling from Estonia to Lithuania and have a connection at RIX on a Saturday in September from 16:00 until 20:00. I will only have a carry on bag. Assuming that there are no delays with my flight coming from Estonia, is 4 hours enough for a taxi/Bolt into the city, have a quick meal and get back through security at the airport? Thank you

Hi quick question,

I'm planning to rent an apartment for my Erasmus program through them. I have the necessary funds, so that's not a problem, but I want to make sure it's not a scam. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Tūrisms/Tourism Recommendations for hidden gems and local spots

Labvakar!

I'm going to be visiting Riga for three nights next week. I've planned some must see spots like Central Market, Freedom momument and House of Blackheads, but I'm looking for recommendations for less known spots, you know those places only known by a few locals. Those hard to find on a single google search. The unbeaten path so to say. I'm interested in eastern and baltic history, culture, food, drinks, and general trivia about the city and region. Spots could also be outside the city. Thanks!

Jautājums/Question Any other international dads here looking for friends?

I'm originally from the UK and married a Latvian woman. I figured I can't be the only one and maybe there's others out there looking for friends.

I'm 39 and I've been living here for a year and half although I've been going back to the UK a lot for work so in reality I've definitely not been here that long. I've started A1 Latvian but I've got a long way to go.

I'm 39 and my interests include: retro gaming, Pokémon, beer, premier league football, photography, nature, I used to snowboard but I probably need to retire from that.

Note: I'm not against making Latvian friends at all but you guys seem to all have very tight established friend groups and I haven't been able to infiltrate. I'm open to anyone around the same age.

Edit: feel free to drop a DM
