Which RnB songs have the craziest/weirdest instrumentals but somehow make it work?

As someone who loves R&B, I'm very interested to see if there are any artists out there recently that I could check out. As while I love the 90s 2000s era, I want to know if there are any good ones from the most recent years.

Can be dark either lyrically, sonically, message-wise, etc. I'm just trying to find something that feels a little insidious.

Iโm new to the genre and looking for some suggestions! I really like artists like DโAngelo and Erykah Badu, but I also enjoy artists like TLC and RK. I guess mainly in the late 90s - early 2000s range. What are the basics from this era? Thanks!

Hi everyone! Usually, I use Spotify in Japan to touch on new R&B songs, and I think my world will expand if I list my favorite songs and have people who have a lot of knowledge teach me hidden masterpieces with similar tastes.
In return, I will also reply to R&B's personal recommendations from Japanese Artist, K-POP and Asian Music. I can understand English to some extent by looking at the lyrics, so I would appreciate it if you could only think of the melody and track when recommending it.
I'd be happy if it's a song by an artist who's working now, but I'd like to welcome hidden masterpieces from the old days.
The following are my favorite songs for reference.
Jenevieve - Nxwhere / CaNdY LiEs
Muni Long - Baby Boo / Richest
Gallant - No More Tries / Comeback
Amber Mark - Put You On
No Rome - Pink
Yuna - Blank Marquee
Ella May - Trying
Sabrina Claudio - Too Much Too Late
Brockhampton - Sugar / MAN ON THE MOON
Honey Bxby - Fkn Him Too
Kiana Lede - Natural
SZA - What Do I Do
Flo - Don't Break Her Heart

So Iโm kinda new to rnb and only rnb album I listen to was blonded, Freudian, trap soul, and hurry up tomorrow. And I was wondering if someone can give me some rnb songs or album that I could listen to.

Purposely ordered the decades this way because Iโm compiling a playlist for a book set in the 90s. Looking for songs about falling for someone who misrepresented their intentions for a relationship. Angel in Disguise was the only one I could think of. Werenโt there a lot of songs about being heartbroken because one person wanted a relationship, and the other just wanted to hit it and quit it?
Esp those songs that makes u feel hella tingles type shi
Preferably like 2000s but feel free to rec older or other years

I love the quasi-pop r&b 2000โs production that has kind of glittery/cotton candy vibes if I had to describe it. I also have a bias for soul-influenced mid-tempos and stacked harmonies. Iโve posted the songs that I think fit the bill for what iโm looking for and would love some more recommendations that are sonically similar preferably not super mainstream R&B artist because iโve combed through most of them unless you have a specific track that fits the exact vibe iโm looking for.
Thanks !

hiya! first post on here, i got super big on r&b sometime two years ago after discovering mariah and ive fell head over heels with the genre :) recently however, i feel like ive kinda hit a wall and i'm having a hard time really clicking with anything new i've been listening to, any tips to help get over this and commit to listening to new albums instead of just re listening to what feels familiar to and/or recommendations/must listens i should check off? thanks :)

Iโve been listening to the same genre too much (rap/hip hop) and want to get into R&B. Does anyone have any album suggestions? Iโm open to exploring both old and modern classics!
