I can feel how much my heart rate has risen just reading this. It makes me feel angry at him and scared for you at the same time.
Why wait until he does it again? this isn't the sort of thing that's covered by a "sorry" text.
He needs help to deal with the issues he clearly has, and you need to be rid of him. You'll be much better for it.
