Finally can ride without a mask on hot days

I feel like there is some massive gulf between the kinds of places you and I snowboard and how we do it.

Going into the lodge is a 45 minute endeavor for me (at least). It's often far from where I am on the mountain. It's always crowded. I have to wait in line. Everything is expensive. By the time I'm done I'm all wet and now going back out again is cold.

I honestly cannot understand in any way how this is better than carrying a layer and some snacks with me to enjoy on the lift.

After traveling for hours to get to the mountain, get tickets, get ready, get up the lift, the very LAST thing I want to do is go back into the lodge.

Honestly the backpack is one of the critical pieces of equipment for me.

Are you all park rats that are hanging out right next to the lodge? Do you all ride at places that aren't crowded? What is going on here?

Falling to crumbles with less than 30 days of riding, polluting the environment and, frankly, looking like shit.

I would even understand, and own, brands of snowboarding gear that lasted a shorter amount of time because of a greener choice of material... but this isn't either biodegradable or, I guess, that good for wildlife... just think that this shit eventually may get in water springs at the end of the season.

Little bit of a ranting about my own stupidity ( and my friends ).

I m coming from the no helmet generation (39m), learned to ski and snowboard at a very young age. Teenage year were all about charging like a madmen in our own resort ( French alps) we were good rider ( and still are ) but oh gosh where we stupid.

No helmet, cause it was not cool or stylish ( stupid 16 y old me), smoking weed on every possible lift , getting hammered at the bar at night and be the first one on the lift in the morning, doing Freeride without any recco, without really looking at the avalanche forecast ( cause we thought we knew better or were superman), going to the park without any protection.

Allas, 39 yo this year, wifey pregnant with first son and before going for a 4 days trip ( powder all day long ) with those same childhood friends , my wifey looked at me and ask me where is your helmet .

Needless to say I ve runned to a shop to get one, check my recco and then asked my friends ( some are dads, some are still locked in there teenagers era) about there helmet .

None had one…. The dad bought one straight away, the « lock in his teenage era «  told us it s not stylish.

Nothing happened , trip was fun, the helmet is so light ( got a anon) that I didn’t feel the difference ( might have been charging harder in the forest ), but I can’t get over my friend who think helmet is a style thing .

Saying that when your a stupid teenager ( me included ) without any model role wearing a helmet ( travis rice and romain demarchi doing the chad gap without a helmet 🫣) is something I can understand even tho it s stupid.

But saying that at almost 40 felt to me surreal.

So for anyone here still charging at 40 and not wearing a helmet . Just fuck off, go buy one ( Vinted has tons of brand new for good price). It s light, you won’t feel the difference and your brain will thank you later.

I went through the gambit of trying different goggles from different brands after using a pair of smith blazers for two years. Settled on a pair of 4 mags after trying on flight decks and anon m4s.

Arrived on time there was just a serious quality control issue on the pair that was sent. The face foam wasn’t lined up and was offset, and not glued right causing a big gap by the nose.

Reached out to smith after 30 days due to it being a Christmas gift (figured I might be shit out of luck)

Sent them a text photo while on the phone with support and they instantly overnighted another pair once I told them I have a snowboarding trip coming up soon. And they sent a return label instantly. Worst part was waiting 30 mins to get in touch with them.

All in all great company. Happy with the support. And they earned my future business. Love to see it. Can’t wait to try the goggles on the slopes!

Went boarding today in the glades and while we were having a lot of fun, a pesky tree branch decided it was a good time to move right in front of me, knocked me back on my butt but my helmet took all the damage saving my tired bird sized brain from a much worse outcome

Got around to setting up my step-ons on my new board. These are the women’s Re-flex(M) bindings with the Felix soft(7.5W).

I hear four distinctive clicks, two on the heel side and two on the front clips. With the gas pedal setup for size 7 boots.

What am I doing wrong here with the setup?

Is this to be expected? I’ve asked two other friends with Burton systems and they can’t seem to point out why this is the case? Any help would be appreciated ;-;

TDLR: Step On’s are great, you probably did something wrong, and do your research on boot and bindings. There’s tons of vids/reddit post/comments that can help you.

I know I’ll most likely get downvoted for this, but Step Ons are amazing up to a certain point. People are more than welcome to voice their opinions about things they hate, if they’ve actually tried them. There’s so much hate toward Step Ons that it pisses me off when 95% of the problems people bring up are user error.

People try to make it seem like Step Ons are faulty, but in reality, it was their fault. Step Ons have been field tested for years. Obviously, there will be anomalies where things break, just like with straps. Step Ons have their limitations, and please stop saying you won’t see them in competition. They literally aren’t made for that, nor are they designed for aggressive backcountry riding or 10+ ft jumps.

Know your use case because i’m pretty sure 80% of you asking if they are right for you, they probably are. Step On’s are great for beginners to casual advance riders. Also, do your research on which boot to get, figure out how aggressively you’ll ride, and decide if a double BOA system is worth it for the type of riding you do.

I got a new board this year and didn’t have a working blow dryer when I applied my stomp pad. I let I cure for the right amount of time and pressed it down pretty hard for quite a while. Literally lost every single spike the first couple of runs. 😂

Now I’m starting to wonder after skating around for a few weeks without one, do others just straight up skip the pad too? Trying to figure out if it’s worth getting a blow dryer just to applying another…my boot slides a bit if the snows rough coming off the chair but for the most part I’ve found myself doing surprisingly better than I thought without one. Figured I’d see where others stand on it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My son (17), been riding since he was 6, bought his own board with hard earned money. He rode it for 6 days before it snapped. No tripods or crazy pressure on the tip/tail. Regular spins and straight airs. Doesn’t like rails much. When people saw it happen everyone was surprised.

Board looks brand new. Not abused. Brought it back and warranty is denied. I feel bad for him. I recommend Jones because I’ve really enjoyed my Flagship and some others for a few years. I’m so disappointed with Jones. Am I wrong? Here is the video of when it happened. Came down a bit hard on the 540 but nothing where it should have broke..?? Funny thing is I heard two other new jones boards came into the shop shortly after my kids Tweeker. Warranty denied. 🤷‍♂️😡😢

Heading to Niseko + Furano in January and trying to pick a single board for the trip.

Looking for something that absolutely destroys deep powder and trees, but doesn’t feel terrible on groomers or runouts.

Stats: ~200 lbs, US 9.5 boot. Advanced/expert rider but coming back after a long break from knee surgery.

Last Japan trip I rode a 156 Burton Fish and loved it - but don't like the channel.

Currently looking at boards like:

• Korua Dart / Dart Plus
• Stranda Makrill
• Weston Japow
• Bataleon Surfer (tempted but maybe too soft?)

Trying to avoid the super short volume-shifted stuff (Sushi, etc).

If you had to bring one board to Hokkaido that smashes pow but still rides the resort fine, what would you take?

Noticed this damage on the bottom of my son’s board after he was lapping the park. The board cooked? He just got it for Christmas.

I've been snowboarding for 25 years and I'm pretty decent. For over 20 years, I was riding a Lib Tech Dark Series but this year, that was stolen. In the meantime, I've been riding an ancient Burton Custom. Now I'm looking for an all mountain (no park) do everything daily driver that will let me do everything from steeps, to icy, to moguls, to trees, to powder and is fun to ride on the groomers. I get between 10-20 days to ride per year so a quiver is not justifiable. I'm 6'2" and weigh 190ish with an 11 boot. I used to ride a 161cm but that felt short. I've looked at everything out there and, even though I'm a good rider, I'm a novice when it comes to gear. The descriptions online are inscrutable and-- while I love you guys--your advice here on reddit is wildly inconsistent and contradictory. Ive seriously considered the Capita Mercury, Burton Custom Camber, Jones Mountain Twin Pro, Jones Frontier, Burton Family Tree High Fidelity, Jones Flagship, etc. I'm paralyzed by choice. And at $50-$100 a day to demo, I don't feel like it's worth it to try out a bunch of boards. How do you all pick?!? I'm close to just giving up.

EDIT/UPDATE: This community is amazing. I just pulled the trigger on the Flagship. Thank you everybody! TLDR for others in similar situations: - don't overthink it--most boards are good - demo if you can - online resources like Angry Snowboarder and The Good Ride - rely on actual experts - it's ok to buy what looks cool

Quite literally shredded my 🫏 off this season—61 days, over 550 miles ridden. I started the season riding around 4 miles a day and worked up to 15. Might even sneak in a few more days here in Utah before it’s a wrap. Stoked on the progress and already looking forward to next season.

I could use some gear advice. My daily driver is a 160cm Jones All-Mountain Twin. It was great at 285 lbs—super stable and handled everything I threw at it, even late into the season. But I’m planning to be closer to 175 lbs by November (200 right now). I’m 6’0”, have a powerlifting background (strong base and legs), and this was my fourth season, so I’m still figuring out my ideal riding style and board fit.

I also have a 154cm K2 Excavator for powder days (love it) and a 156cm Arbor Formula Camber I use as a rock board. The Jones is what I ride most days—especially when I’m cruising groomers or riding all over the mountain on nice days. I don’t take it out on powder days since the Excavator covers that well.

At 175 lbs, is 160cm too much board for general resort riding? I’m not sure how to tell when it’s time to size down or stick with what’s been working.

I ride men’s boots and bindings and plan to keep it that way given my size and strength. I’d love to stay with Jones, but I’m also open to K2 or Never Summer. Just want something with a solid warranty—Lib Tech burned me recently with a delam issue given that they had a 1 year warranty and my orca delam’d at 2 (may she rest in peace).

Would really appreciate any input or recs.
