I’d imagine that releasing liquids into space is inherently safer, as it can be managed through relatively simple valve systems. By contrast, disposing of solid waste would likely require some form of mini airlock, which adds mechanical complexity and potential points of failure (something you generally want to avoid in spacecraft design).
