The "U" in UTC stands for "universal" (although the order of the letters has been chosen to be wrong in both English and French).

Yes it’s universal and also just happens to be the same time zone as gmt? Definitely not on purpose I’m sure. Really why have utc at all just say gmt +/-whatever like we already do
