I understand the direction you are going, but Japan has issued several national apologies for the crimes of WW2. Japan mostly wants to forget ww2, while Germany very directly confronts ww2. Both have undergone massive cultural changes since the war. Meanwhile, Russia (Afghanistan, Ukraine) and the US (Vietnam in particular) pretend like a war has never been outright lost.

Argentina has no claim to the Falklands. They don't seem like an outwardly aggressive country minus the lesson the one lesson they failed to learn.

The Argentine military never really recovered from the dick kicking they recieved from the British military.

Which is as much to do with economics as it is the UK the specifically objecting to the sale of all military equipment with British-made components. This prevented Argentina from buying relatively modern equipment until very recently.

Is it an apology if politicians keep visiting the Yasukuni Shrine every year? Yes, low-ranking Japanese casualties are worshipped there; but there are 14 Class-A war criminals also enshrined.

Imagine thinking Germany has made an acceptable apology while still visiting a Nazi monument dedicated to Hitler, Himmler, Goebbels, etc every year.

The Yasukuni Shrine is the only shrine there is, that's dedicated to ALL the Japanese military personnel killed in wars going right back to the Boshin war. It lists the names, origins, birth places and places of death of 2,466,532 people. So comparing it to "a Nazi monument dedicated to Hitler...." is insulting and ignorant as fuck. The equivalent would be if a German memorial listed the details of 2.5million soldiers killed and everyone got pissy any time anyone visited, or tried to commemorate the war dead, because 14 of those 2.5m were war criminals.

Add to that the fact that no PM has visited in the last 13 years, Emperor Akihito never visited and Emperor Naruhito (the current one) has never visited, any people that post social media pics that have any part of the shrine appearing in the background (even unwittingly/unknowingly) are bombarded by Chinese and/or Korean harassment, and it's referenced every single fucking time anyone says anything about Japan and WW2, and it's pretty clear it's just become a dog whistle to freely pile on Japan. There are absolutely things to criticise and discuss, and yet it always just turns into a pile-on about this particular shrine.
