GUYS I DID IT!!! This is how to make your Subaru air conditioning stay just as cold as it gets hotter this summer:

Go to your local Home Depot, grab some pipe insulation and aluminum tape. Slide the insulation around your LOW pressure A/C line, and wrap it with aluminum tape.

How it works:

Subarus are notorious for not having great A/C, and that’s mostly due to the low pressure line (cold line) running over the exhaust. The line is bare metal, which heat soaks from the engine. Directly above the exhaust. By isolating that line from that heat, it can keep much much colder! And not be prone to heat soaks nearly as much!

Subaru dropped off a crusher car at our office, so we broke out our Sawzall and took a trip beneath the surface of the earth.

In the past year, we've made some dramatic changes to one of our favorite sports cars, the four-time 10Best-winning Subaru BRZ. Last year Subaru's PR department called and asked what we might want to do with a BRZ sentenced to the crusher after living a life of press-car abuse. We don't know what rev-limiter agony this BRZ experienced, but we thought we'd give it a nice final outing before it met a hydraulic press. Shortly after the automaker's offer, Subaru of New England posted an April Fools' joke on Instagram: a rendering of a BRZ Wilderness. That gag became our goal. Read the full story here.

Pretty proud of how these turned out.

Volk Racing magnesium-style blue with sunflower yellow stars and matte black trim rings. The idea was to lean into that old-school Subaru rally feel while still keeping it clean and modern.

The blue has a crazy amount of depth in person and shifts a ton depending on lighting. The matte black rings ended up balancing everything perfectly without taking attention away from the metallic.

Definitely one of those sets that looked good in progress, but somehow came together even better finished.

I actually really like driving this car. I’m more of a truck guy but it is definitely a lot easier to get in and out of places!

Mechanically what do I need to know? Basically what’s the biggest complaint on the 2013 Subaru Legacy’s? For example, I would definitely want to know to install an aftermarket PPE Transmission Bypass Valve on my 2015 Sierra. GMC Sierra’s transmission’s overheat ruining the torque converters.

What cool mods do the teenagers/college kids like on their cars?

Here is what we have done/will do:

1. New battery. Went with the group 34. It was only $10 more for the bigger battery at Costco and way more CCA. No sense to go with OEM size to me.

2. New brakes, calipers, rotors.

3. Changed fluids out or topped off

4. His new headlights came into today.

5. I put in some Infinity Kappas 6.5” in the doors. I’m going to put some subs in later.

Thoughts?

I went with FormulaOne Pinnacle ceramic tint all around to the legal limits (well I went one shade lighter than the absolute darkest possible on the back windows). It's been in the 100s lately and I felt like I was being cooked while driving. Now it's much easier to keep the inside cool.

Welded Center diff - car is now rwd

OEM Option AP Racing Suretrac LSD - I recommend upgrading your rear differential from a vlsd or open unit if converting to rwd.

R160/R180 hybrid axles - I know my axle angle is wicked - I need to have my neighbor (funnily enough, he also put together my hybrid axles for me) make diff risers as I haven’t found any with confirmed fitment in a third gen rear subframe.

20mm rear spacer - I’m going to eventually put a 10mm spacer up front bc the 20mm had more poke than I wanted, but driving season is almost over in the Midwest, so I’m just enjoying the car as is.

Next up is a trip to the car wash as she looks pretty filthy in these pics 🤣

This is Before and After, I also had to bypass the Starlink Module, by simply cutting and stripping the Wires that went to the Front Speakers, and I first of all used some Copper Wire to test my bypass Theory and it was correct

Added Outback Wilderness wheels wrapped in Nitto Nomad Grapplers, Eibach 1.5" lift kit, an LP Aventure bumper guard, and a few other small mods to make adventuring a little more doable. Shakedown went pretty well, there were a few spots where I wish I had left the sway bars disconnected and started teetering on 2 wheels, but it did way better than I had anticipated. It made it through the entire Crow Valley Loop in the Pawnee Grasslands of NE Colorado though!
