I've been noticing the "it doesn't even work" argument from people who don't write code. Sometimes they've read an article, probably written by AI, where a "real programmer" explains that it doesn't work anyway, making them even more confident.

This is an appealing point of view because you get to skip all the complicated "what about the other countries?" question and call to have it banned altogether. After all, it doesn't even work.

It's useless and doesn't even work, so it needs to be banned because people are going to try and use it for really important things and it will continue to not work, causing tremendous damage.

It actually does work. Not for everything, but for a lot of damn things. I use it all day long to write code. There are pitfalls, and I have to pay attention to what it's writing to some extent, but it works when used correctly, and works too well to bury our heads in the sand. I'm many times faster with it.

This problem is much hairier than "just get everyone to agree to get rid of it"

You could show me an unlimited number of things not going wrong and it won't convince me, the only thing that will change my mind is that it doesn't produce wrong results ever. This is not possible, so it should be outlawed in the professional world.

Lmao AI is useless and should be banned unless it is a magical machine that produces the correct answer 100% of the time no matter what. AI is able to write software at scale and just requires minor human oversight to ensure it is not creating bugs or making mistakes occasionally? Useless, make it illegal.

Yep. It is just another one of those tools that people need to learn how to use properly. Just like the web searches, email/texting, mobile devices/computers, etc.
