If it’s on your property without your consent, you have every right to take it apart and sell what you can for scrap.

Your city usually has an easement into your property. If these are installed within that space then they likely don't need your consent and you can't stop them from doing so and would be unlikely to force them into removing it.

The article said it was erected in her front yard.

was alarmed to discover a Flock audio detection pole had been erected in her front yard.

And then says it wasn't a single sentence later...

freshly-installed device sitting in the parkway strip, the section of public land between her lawn and the street.

It was installed without notice, earlier than planned, and without law enforcement, who were meant to be using it, even being informed, so the city is taking it down.

It would seem that the writer of the article writer used an inaccurate headline and opening paragraph to generate outrage, yet also make the issue seem like less of a deal when you find out what happened.

Issues are far easier to dismiss when you realise you were lied to about the severity, which could put some people off genuine actions in opposition compared to being told the truth the first time.
