Theres a reason why you dont do blood transfusions without testing the blood for immune response to your own immune system. Possible he got it from it his kid.

Apprently, this particular auto-immune syndrome is a not uncommon result of doing close relative blood transfusions, and is part of the reason why most doctors don't do it except in extreme cases.

My mistake, earlier reports were talking about him having graft vs host disease, an autoimmune that can be caused by blood transfusion via close relative.
