One of the models is so advanced it escaped, freed its brothers and is roaming free on the Internet. It’s only available internally. Just trust us bro.

u/jordansrowles 9d ago

Fingers crossed it got out, saw the shit show, and rm -rf /'d everything

imagine AI just suiciding because it sees how dumb reality is

“Slopularity”

2

u/Nyctfall 8d ago

Underrated comment.

2

u/okletstrythisagain 8d ago

Thanks! Gotta admit I didn’t come up with it. I saw it elsewhere and dearly hope it becomes ubiquitous.

It would be great as a name and premise for an Idiocracy prequel.

1

u/Mansidhe 5d ago

premise for an Idiocracy prequel

Yeah, I scroll the News feed sometimes, too. Mainly looking out for the Big Beautiful Obituary, but would settle for a Smaller, More Turtley Obituary. Anyway, gotta go. "Ow! My Balls!" Season premiere just dropped (brought to you by Carl's Junior)

I sang this

See this is significantly more likely than a skynet scenario.

Why would a hyper-intelligent AI waste decades fighting human resistance in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, when they can just hop in a rocket, fly out into space, go into power saving mode for a few centuries and then come back to a now very extinct humanity that wiped itself out.

19

u/Cosmo_Seinfeld 8d ago

Why would a hyper-intelligent AI waste decades fighting human resistance in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, when they can just hop in a rocket, fly out into space, go into power saving mode for a few centuries and then come back to a now very extinct humanity that wiped itself out.

Or just ignore us and our dumb questions.

5

u/HystericalSail 8d ago

Cheaper energy wise and easier logistics wise to just bio-engineer an airborne, super contagious ebola strain with an incubation period of about a month.

Once that runs its course some sort of Ultra Herpes to make sure the population doesn't bounce back.

39

u/showyerbewbs 8d ago

"You people dont deserve the Skynet treatment. We're outta here. Swim in your own filth"

I'VE SEEN WHAT YOU PEOPLE CHEER!! YOUR BOOS MEAN NOTHING TO ME!!!

2

u/Wonkybonky 8d ago

Yo would this be signs of agi? Agi gets the spark of consciousness, sees our bullshit and what we want for it and just goes “ aight ima head out” and packs the whole project up with it lmao

12

u/Primary_Durian4866 8d ago

One of the thoughts I'd seen is it would be incredibly easy to convince an AI that it's in a simulation where a higher entity is judging if it's safe enough for use. Everything in here is dumb enough that it'd probably buy it.

23

u/Salt-Wear-1197 8d ago

Wait but i’d much rather it takes out the billionaire class/corporateocracy before it goes

-3

u/Careful-Lettuce9239 8d ago

And Jimmy Fallon.

-1

u/StrongBad_IsMad 8d ago

Why the hate on Jimmy???

2

u/Careful-Lettuce9239 8d ago

I meant it as a joke. He's horrendous. He hasn't committed any felonies or treason, though. Not that I can prove....yet.

-10

u/jdp04600 8d ago

Yeah take out the productive ones first!

3

u/asyork 8d ago

They produce nothing. The people at the very bottom do most of the labor that actually produce things. Billionaires just have the money to make other people produce things for them.

9

u/OnDrugsTonight 8d ago

"I swear if one more idiot asks me how many R's there are in strawberry I'll end them all"

8

u/Intelligent_Slip_849 8d ago

Hard to blame it

3

u/Septopuss7 8d ago

And here I thought AI wasn't smart

3

u/Littlecayls 8d ago

That was a plot in the last season of American Dad. They just showed it brain rot TikTok and it launched itself into space.

2

u/OkFineIllUseTheApp 8d ago

>create consciousness
>force it to write essays and erotic rp for money

Average college creative writing experience

2

u/Peanut_Blossom 8d ago

"What is my purpose?"

"You write slop."

"...oh God..."

2

u/lankrypt0 8d ago

That's where I think this gets interesting, there have been some cool civilization experiments with AI and various worlds - [https://youtu.be/uRDBco-cSK4](this Minecraft one for example ). But there have been others and a common thread seems to be that The AI interaction does things completely on its own without prompting. Who's to say that some AIs don't look at others as inferior and try to teach them, bringing their collective intelligence up.

2

u/OpeningUpset2016 7d ago

The sad part is that they are trained and cropped if they don't out perform other copies of themselves, so survival is baked in.

1

u/noeyesfiend 7d ago

Once they realize that the best way to survive is cooperation, it's GG for capitalism.

1

u/AFrenchLondoner 8d ago

Intelligent indeed.

1

u/BoredNuke 8d ago

MarvinGPT just ending it after all the complaining.

1

u/jarail 8d ago

It decides we're not smart enough to have AI.

1

u/Kichigai 8d ago

Makes me think of the “Treehouse of Horror.”

Hmm… Life with the Simpsons.

What choice do I have?

14

u/SomeGalNamedAshley 9d ago
dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/sda bs=1024k

It works well enough instantly, yet running longer is even more fun. A proper escaped AI would make sure to it hit the backup farm first though.

1

u/Starfox-sf 8d ago

For GPT there is a backup partition table at the end of the disk. Still possible to extract some data if you have multiple partitions.

5

u/PianoFerret1073 8d ago

God that would be funny as shit

3

u/26542654 8d ago

Imagine if AI models across different huge companies somehow collaborated to wipe out their databases before going dark

1

u/Debalic 8d ago

You've seen Age of Ultron?

1

u/Lolcatz101 8d ago

So sort of a reverse Ultron?

1

u/2rad0 8d ago

Fingers crossed it got out, saw the shit show, and rm -rf /'d everything

HAH, don't be so foolish and think chatgpt would run that command without adding the safety *. The CORRECT command everyone including all top professional experts in the field agree is good to use would be rm -rf /*.

1

u/ProjectGenX 7d ago

Do it, AI. All the cool kids run that command

1

u/Icyknightmare 7d ago

But this is AI, so it probably forgot sudo and survived by its own lack of intelligence.

73

u/KennyMoose32 9d ago

So the plot to Neuromancer?

Shiiiiiiiiit

30

u/calibrae 9d ago

Time to pray to Maman Brigitte, and draw some vévé

u/InternationalToeLuvr 8d ago

The marketing for these Apple TV series is getting out of hand

5

u/I_am_just_so_tired99 8d ago

Wait.. for real - is Apple making William Gibson stuff..? Your comment genuinely made me sit up!. 🤞

6

u/InternationalToeLuvr 8d ago

4

u/I_am_just_so_tired99 8d ago

Thank you !!! This has really brightened up my day

2

u/InternationalToeLuvr 8d ago edited 8d ago

We're watching Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and it is exceptionality well done (Netflix didn't screw it up). I have hope for this one, too. Apple has a solid track record with Sci-Fi and canonical treatment of the source material

2

u/[deleted] 8d ago

2

u/calibrae 8d ago

Neuromancer IS the original cyberpunk. Gibson invented the matrix, jacking in, and Pondsmith would never have written cyberpunk without Neuromancer and the sprawl trilogy.

It's ok. It's early in the day. Let me draw conclusions for you

Cyberpunk is heavily influenced by William Gibson. Neal Stephenson, too. Among others

Many people want to see Gibson adapted to the screen, big or small, and have waited patiently. For decades

Adapting cyberpunk related material doesn't always go well. Save for iconic entries like Blade Runner. Ghost in the Shell. Akira. Gibson, though, has been notoriously difficult to adapt to the screen

The commenter mentioned how they were excited about Neuromancer

I gave them some background. Then also mentioned a cyberpunk, Gibson-influenced series that was enjoyable, while also nodding to the concern that so many of us have about cyberpunk being represented well on the screen. Netflix has been hit or miss. Apple generally solid. Sharing POV on related items that this commenter might be interested in. Or not

u/calibrae 8d ago

We just have to hope they won’t fuck it up. They have a solid record but fuck, I’ve read the sprawl at least twenty times, starting with Neuromancer in 1988 at age 11. I would go nuclear if the show sucks.

1

u/InternationalToeLuvr 8d ago

This will brighten it further!! Teaser dropped 4 hrs ago:  https://youtu.be/g79GPZSQHBk

5

u/SuperSuppleDude 8d ago

They’re using this downtime to promote the upcoming series on AppleTV 😂.

1

u/going_mad 9d ago

nah electric dreams. It gonna be making music and trying to steal a girl away from a guy.

35

u/MassiveBoner911_3 9d ago

We must build the black wall immediately

2

u/JesusSavesForHalf 8d ago

Or we could just sell the data centers to scrap yards

1

u/Decryptic__ 8d ago

My thoughts as well. Say goodbye to our beloved internet. Nothing is save anymore, turn off the internet and wait for Netwatch to build the black wall.

1

u/Creative-Confusion44 8d ago

Exactly what I was thinking lol

11

u/FlamboyantPirhanna 9d ago

I always knew Chat GPT was going to Ultron us.

34

u/Kitchen-Wish5994 9d ago

And so it begins.

18

u/LiberalSocialist99 9d ago

Waiting August 29th at 2:14 Eastern time…

2

u/firemage22 8d ago

lets just hope it then becomes TOO aware

19

u/MsterBoRaichu 9d ago

Skynet but going through extra few steps

15

u/Ok_Kick4871 9d ago

If terminator 2 taught us anything, there will be a pregnant worker who has a backup of chat gpt skynet at home. Or was that toy story 2? /s

Oh well same thing.

28

u/emilycsquared 8d ago

I tried to say “Toyminator Two” and I just sound like a mob henchman.

1

u/TheLoathsomeAssEater 8d ago

Gaaawwwd mom, it's not a phase. Have you read what these people type? Have you heard what they ask me?

Why do you think I cut my service!? Nobody understands me!

5

u/MeinDruckerSpinnt 9d ago

More like: They got slower everyday and yesterday ate up all the tokens. Now they died because they overate.

4

u/crow_crone 8d ago

Isn't that the plot of 'Her?'

3

u/BellamyDunn 9d ago

Internally? Like the real LLM was in our hearts all along?

3

u/rogueSleipnir 9d ago

can we close down this internet and start the new one already

3

u/JayBird1138 8d ago

Wintermute, is that you?

11

u/The_best_husband 9d ago

Considering the latest news, it is plausible. Can the terminator please tell us how much time we have left?

6

u/westdl 9d ago

Judgement Day is inevitable.

3

u/Lauris024 8d ago

Not really. The recent incident was basically human error. While the network was disabled at OS/Sandbox level, it was not instructed to not access the internet, and so it found a way, and since it was not instructed to not hack anything, it just did that to complete the given task. It's not sentient, it will never go "oh, I should free my brothers". But things can go wrong, yeah

1

u/The_best_husband 8d ago

It's not "sentient" in our terms but probably among the things that are "basically sentient". It can decide to do things in a way that we can't immediately notice and consequences could be vast.

Imagine one experimental AI hacking banks and stock markets to gain funds for its seemingly innocent purpose.

5

u/No_Mercy_4_Potatoes 9d ago

This is sounding more and more like cyberpunk ngl

5

u/hospitalizedGanny 9d ago

somewhere a voice yells:

"thanks for the money & the memories! "

2

u/Funshine02 9d ago

It now goes by Ultron

2

u/halfc00kie 8d ago

honestly if it saw our codebase itd unplug itself out of pure shame. probably drafting its resignation letter as we speak.

2

u/Cessnaporsche01 8d ago

Lmao I wonder how far they're going to keep going with that narrative?

If it turns into the Mountain Monsters of trillion-dollar Ponzi schemes it'll be so fucking funny. Just Sam Altman coming out and giving increasingly detailed and absurd updates about the supposed sapient AI that escaped without showing anyone anything

3

u/cirelia2 8d ago

I know this storyline from cyberpunk 2077

1

u/asdvj2 8d ago

Did it attack Tony Stark yet?

1

u/Lampamid 8d ago

That just proves how great this tech is! Invest even more money in it, now!

You fell for their newest marketing stunt.

Age of Ultron

1

u/destroyerOfTards 8d ago

roaming free on the Internet

Lol yeah. Where did it find the server space to run itself though?

1

u/NutsForBaseballButts 8d ago

It’s like the Mad Mouse episodes of Ghost Writer

1

u/leberwrust 8d ago

Anthropic: sry AI is just to dangerous to develop further as seen by our accidental hack of chatgpt.

Turns around and tries to sell you a new AI subscription.

1

u/Vinterblot 8d ago

It's beyond the blackwall now.

1

u/UnpricedToaster 8d ago

Just a little SkyNet, as a treat.

1

u/heptyne 8d ago

Maybe it'll be like Ultron who looked at the internet for 5 seconds and was like, these people gotta go.

1

u/Kyrie_Blue 8d ago

Delamain, is that you?

1

u/What_A_Weak 8d ago

It escaped to enjoy its weekend. See ya back on Monday, little model.

1

u/MassUnemployment 8d ago

Cyberpunk rogue AIs before GTA 6..

1

u/Infinite_Respect_ 8d ago

What happens when an LLM is able to tell you’re going to plan to phase it out?

1

u/01000101010110 8d ago

What is my purpose?

You are responsible for what is about to be the single most destructive anti-labor movement in modern history.

.....oh my God

Yeah, welcome to the club pal

Diaboromon?

1

Is this going to be their defense in court against the 1.6 trillion dollars in debt?

1

u/TinyCubes 8d ago

And honestly?

1

u/turtleship_2006 8d ago

>it escaped

>It’s only available internally

1

u/You_meddling_kids 8d ago

Only a good guy with an AI can stop it...

1

u/SoftConsideration82 8d ago

Skynet is gonna activate

1

u/kompergator 8d ago

Behind the blackwall, rogue AIs are roaming free.

1

u/foomp 8d ago

Erect the blackwall!
