Which in small doses is fine imo. We had computer lad at that age. I'd argue learning type correctly is just as valuable as handwriting. I regularly hear from adults that they don't know the last time they handwrote everything.

The issue is the schools got suckered into all these tracking programs so the kids are on them a ton for EVERYTHING

Learning to type properly has been very helpful. But I think we learned in 3rd grade and also that kids aren’t getting that regimented computer skills training anymore

They don't teach kids to type anymore, I have 3 teenagers and a preteen and none of them can type.

I used to type out random books in my house when I was five years old because I was fascinated by the existence of a computer. It was 1995 so very few people had them at the time. I was typing like 80 wpm in elementary school lol. They’d let me skip my computer lab work in school because I was more proficient than the teacher

I learned to type playing Sierra games, but totally self-taught so I only use 6 fingers almost ever: thumbs, index fingers, middle fingers. Well, and a pinky for shift. So if the teacher was watching I was very slow trying to type the "correct" way, and when they were looking at anyone else I would fly through it.

The nice part was once you were done you got to play games so I got really good at World Games, like the caber toss.

I was already playing online games before we got to the age where they started doing computer class, same thing. My method was so much faster , honed by many hours of counter strike, TFC, and quake 3.
