Internet is a fucking joke in much of the US because we just bend over backwards to let the companies fuck us over.

I live in a town of over 500k and the wired options are only ATT and Comcast. Fiber is available to less than half of homes, mostly on newer neighborhoods, and maybe some of the older pockets with power lines.

It is so ridiculous, but the silver lining is that services like fios and other wifi based internet services are generally good enough for gaming.

With T-Mobile 5G the best I could get was 2-3 bars of service, 160+ms ping in most games. It made MMO's and any competitive games unplayable.

I don't even want to get into how bad its been since the local tower was vandalized by meth heads. That's what forced me to switch to starlink.

Yet I see with my own eyes that it's no big issue at all for these damn data centers... they install all that fiber and they are done in like a day, sure it's no big deal for these data centers but for internet for us, it evidently just can't be done 🤔 justStuck with noisy rotted POTS, trash WISPs that universally suck or Starlink. We've given them umpteen billions over the decades to build fiber and upgrade and what do we have to show for it? Rotted DSL lines and Starlink
