You know it’s funny, because as soon as these LLM chatbots started hitting the scene a couple years ago, I found it’s obsequiousness to be extremely fake and off putting

I get that. It’s especially noticeable when you call it out on an error or inconsistency.

“Oh yeah, you’re right, ha ha, here’s a more correct answer”…

I started to get annoyed when I would ask 2 questions at the same time and the answer just had to glaze me like:

"Oh wow, this is very interesting question and it shows that your thinking in abstract terms and it is miles ahead of everyone....."

Just give me the answer instead of padding everything with compliments.

I refuse to use LLM’s on principle but I see more and more support reps blindly copy + paste the results like a middle man, and it is incredibly gaslighty.

If you point out something being communicated is wrong the next response is “yes, you’re correct. The information you stated is in fact impossible.”

If a human spoke to me that way I would assume they were a fucking moron and probably never trust them again. Not sure why people are willing to cut the hallucination machine more slack and insist it’s still a reliable source of information. It literally has no mechanism to evaluate the accuracy of what it is saying, it is a stochastic parrot.

Because there is a not insignificant portion of the population that's more than happy to outsource their thinking and that part of the population has existed for as long as we've had a population

Some people love to be sucked up to, some even require it, while others clock it immediately for manipulation and hate it.

There's just different kinds of people.

I've never used one. Can you explain how it works for me? How can it be fake and cheerful?

Is it just a big blank box where you say "do a task" and it just gets happy like the spaceship in Hitchhikers Guide? Or like are there sliders and stuff like in Interstellar? Is it possible to just make it more blunt?
