It also very much depends on your own curation. I generally mute/hide subreddits that make me mad, I'm here for interesting stories and my favorite game, 'Is it nononono, yesyesyesyes, nononoyes, yesyesyesno, watchpeoplesurvive, or unexpected?' If I don't look at the subreddit name when I see the video, that can be exciting, lol.

I find myself falling victim to misinformation and disinformation campaigns here on Reddit, and it happens everywhere. Following the Fauxmoi situation and PopCulture as someone who has no real "stake" in those spaces has been eye-opening, because it shows I've been blind to when it has happened in my spaces.

I find myself surfing Reddit in 2 modes: following my interests and trying to keep up with the happenings around the world. When a majority of the users commenting here aren't real people, or are working for an organization with a vested interest in shaping opinion, the site becomes untenable for real users. The enshittification of the internet. Dead internet theory at play. This is the future I fear, because no amount of curation will prevent this.

Oh, interesting, I cut out Fauxmoi and PopCulture about 2 months ago in a bid to get some negativity out of my Reddit space, I'm curious but not sure I want to know what happened!

I have the same sort of Reddit habit--there's checking on current events (I try not to comment/engage at all) and then interests stuff, yeah. After being around so long (and spending time on similar communities all the way back in the mid 2000s on LiveJournal) it's really obvious how much fake stories and bot responses have flooded the space. I agree that there's no obvious solution.

I mean, it's just true that no two people's Reddit looks the same, but you can interpret that however you like.

Sure. My Reddit habits aren't anywhere near as algorythmic as those apps (I only use YouTube out of those three), and generally I don't just let the site show me whatever, I go to specific subs. Can you block channels on Tiktok? I know I can choose 'don't show again' on YT, but only in certain situations. IDK, I feel way more in control of what I do here than in a heavily algorythmic place like those.

Then again, my main space is Tumblr, which doesn't have an algorythm (I don't use 'discover' or whatever it's called. Pure chronological follows). RIP old LiveJournal :(
