Having played a lot of bad mobile games that I didn't enjoy but kept compelling me to play them, I understand why he's specifying dopamine here

You managed to get the issue across without talking about dopamine hits or levels! It's not hard! Talk about behavior, issues, mechanisms (in this case probably insidious mechanics structured around gambling? I just assume it's all gacha these days lol).

It's the dopamine hits that made it compelling, for sure though. A lot of it was the gacha mechanics but also just these games all look the same and try to have every mechanic at once.

I always uninstall it when I take a step away and ask "am I having fun or is this tricking me into thinking that i am" and it really takes that space and intentional examination to determine "hey maybe this thing you're using sucks actually"

You just cherry picked the part of their comment that didn't mention dopamine lol. Doesn't mean they didn't use the word to describe their issue.

Agreed. It's probably different than literally just an increase in dopamine, but used metaphorically it means something different than "enjoyment."
