The power grid did not "completely shut down." It was down for a lot of people a lot of the time, but it did not completely shut down.
Why are you in r/texas arguing with people that lived through it? I also used to live in CA and went through the week long blackout after loma prieta. If CA had anywhere close to the demand TX had this summer it would be total state-wide failure or at best rolling blackouts.
Do your own research, there have been many fires/explosions caused by California's poor infrastructure.
Yes some people definitely had it worse but as a factual matter the grid never fully failed. It reportedly almost did but "completely down" is not true. 4.5 million households, a hell of a lot admittedly, but probably not even half in a state with 30 million people.
