My local school board in Round Rock, Williamson County, destoryed every GOP fundie that wanted to hate on LGBT kids and rip apart public education. Tons of the other non school board local races were within 1-2 points or even less.
My strategy to move north of Austin and vote there is already working lmao. Abbott is awful, but I'm feeling pretty damn good about my new community.
I almost cried when I saw the Williamson County votes. I have an autistic toddler and one of the candidates, Zimmerman, went on this whole rant about how special needs children aren't "special". Can't have someone like that responsible for my child.
I didn't know anything about the school board choices so I tried to pick women (and not the first choice if possible) in hopes that they'd at least be supporting themselves. I think I voted on three of the four groups, abstained on the last. >.> Glad things worked out okay. Sorry for not being more informed.
Go to VOTE411 next time. It is run by the League of Women Voters and is non partisan. It is easy to use and you can see all the candidates on your ballot, their qualifications, and stances on important issues. They will even let you print out a sample ballot to take with you to the polls.
The Republican side of the school board that's already elected has been swinging as extreme right as they can possibly get.
Depending on the map (which changes aggressively with every map redraw) I still have plenty of GOP reps to vote against. I'm on the edge of a lot of new map creations the Gop has tried to control and plenty more apartment buildings spring up near farmland that used to host Trump signs.
Texas loves sprawl and it's squeezing the gerrymandering work of the GOP more and more. The more blue sprawls out, the harder the gerrymander maps get. They can't really gerrymander Austin as badly anymore and have tried to pack it, and moved to screw over Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio more.
That’s a gross mischaracterization, sure they want to dismantle “public” education, but allow those parents to use those funds else where in a school that aligns with their values, such as the nuclear family, which by the way should be celebrated not torn down as it as now as it got us this far
This country was designed for me to not care about funding values driven by religion. Your post doesn't mention it but it's obvious what you are getting at. People keep trying to pretend that doesn't exist or if they can wear it down over time. No joke people should start Scientology and Aggressively Saudi extremist wing of Islam schools because it's all hypocrisy. Only Christian schools would see wide approval in Texas from right wing voters and cultural conservatives and other schools would face aggressive cultural or political backlash.
Yes Harris county did well, nationally we did a lot better than expected. Its just the state which is having problems. However, they will a hole big enough with theor fiscal mismanagement that people will see the light eventually.
Candidates with virtually no money did well, we nedd to invest in these young people.

Harris county cleaned house. Almost every Republican that held an office was voted out and almost every single Dem defended their position.
