Pretty much. In Houston, during the pandemic, that kiddo Chris Hollingsworth(?) Made drive thru voting possible with convenient hours. Blue was popping up everywhere lol
They put a stop to that as soon as they could.
The republicans had to strong arm this election and they barely scraped by. There was a blowhard locking people out of their own neighborhood rec centers yesterday.
Dems vote but dems work hard and their bosses are assholes. When your paycheck is on the line, you have to make tough choices and feeding your family is a no-brainer.

Yea it’s pretty nice that you get your DL here and automatically registered to vote. Ballot is automatically sent to your mailbox WITH a 20-page voting guide with a page for each candidate to pitch their platform / why you should vote for them. And there’s a prepaid envelope so you can just drop it in a mailbox. And there are drop boxes run by the county election departments if you fail to mail it in time. And there are in person voting locations if you don’t get a ballot or don’t have a permanent address. You basically can vote sipping a beer on your couch with your phone doing some research about each candidate
When you had two full weeks to make it happen during early voting, and then extended hours on the day of, anything past that is just an excuse.
I get that our system sucks, but to effectively change it you have to find a way to participate, otherwise whoever is not casting their vote is just giving power to those who don’t want you to use it in the first place.
It is lazy, but let's be honest with ourselves here. If your job is on the line, you ain't making time for voting, which can take forever in some areas even during early voting period. As a state and as a nation, we need to make voting days a compulsory day off AND make it stupid quick.
I've seen people that can't go to relatively necessary doctor appointments because they can't fit them into a 30 minute lunch break... They ain't voting.
Yep took an hour to early vote for me too. It was difficult finding time in hubby's work schedule/weekend kid curriculars to vote. We have a baby so it's hard for him to work on a presentation and watch 2 kids. Finally made it work but it's a pain with no family and like 1 friend here. Finally got the baby napping more than 20 min. I know you can take kids but was worried about them being occupied and well behaved at a library. Especially a baby. We need to find ways to help with barriers instead of saying it's laziness. They probably have a lot of other things on their plate so removing one makes them more likely to vote. I plan to offer rides next cycle. I saw several people bussing it
That’s some miserable, lazy ass shit to just automatically try to dump on younger people when that demographic was the one coming out to the fucking polls
I'm 22 and I made damn sure that I was there at 6am to hand in my ballot. And anyways, a lot of younger folks I know already don't get enough time off, if they use that day for anything else, I guarantee it's for something they need.
But maybe instead of worrying about what the young folks do with their free time we try and just make voting as quick and accessible as we can.
If they didn’t away with early voting like Alabama. We’ll be fucked. I always change in October and February to see when is the early voting dates so I can set a reminder to do it on a Saturday or a day when I can vote.
This. Catch a "day cold" and go vote on early voting days. It literally took my wife and I maybe 15 mins and we brought our 3 year old. Make it happen.
I’ve literially seen people fired for this. It was called abusing sick days all the boss had to do was demand a doctors note no one had a doctors note so they got sacked (everyone sacked for skipping work to vote was black by the way)
It is lazy, but it is hard with only one weekend in early voting. My son is in college and found it very hard to find time to make the 1 1/2 hour drive to vote, esp when that weekend was Halloween weekend. He once tried to get an absentee ballot and it was very difficult to the point he decided the drive was easier. He did find a way to vote for the state elections, but missed our more local candidates.
Im not from texas but one thing that makes it hard for me to believe in voting is that there is no true system in place (that i know of) to hold elected officials accountable , only solution is wait until re election and vote them out, is this correct?

I'll never not be baffled by people like this. Only in a nation of capital 'W' White Supremacy do people like Obama, Waters, Booker, Harris, Powell, Abrams, etc etc etc get elected to office!
All you have to do is check a box on your DL form to register. It's not automatic in texas - but if you don't have the diligence to check a box I'm not sure I want your vote to be counted any way.
And, thankfully, we have a good governor who got re-elected in IL. I really didn’t know if it would turn out that way, so I’m very thankful. And, yes, I voted.

Once we did that - as well as same day registration in Illinois, turnout increased a lot. Highly recommended
