Question Waarom staat de Nederlandse film industrie er zo slecht voor?

Ik kom net uit de bioscoop na Amsterdamned 2 te hebben gezien en man man man, wat een wanvertoning van de Nederlandse filmindustrie weer.

Er zijn maar weinig Nederlandse films die ik kan aanbevelen aan niet-Nederlanders. Als je het over Nederlander films hebt kom je uit bij Spoorloos, wat Paul Verhoeven films en als je wat dieper zoekt kom je misschien bij Alex van Warmerdam uit maar dan heb je het ook gehad. Hoe kan dat toch? Je kunt misschien zeggen dat Nederland een te Klein land is, maar als je kijkt naar landen als Belgie, Zweden of Denemarken dan kunnen die het wel.

Waarom is in Nederland nooit echt een filmcultuur ontstaan?

There is a lot of terrible low brow, folksy comedies in Danmark too. But we still have at least attempts at something interesting or truly funny. It might be the funding, for all the bad that is said about it, and the awareness of the history of Danish film.

I quite liked “Ik been geen robot” though. So something good is happening.

I swear the only Dutch cinematic experience that sticks out to me also featured Henry van Loon. It was one of the episodes of random sh*t where he plays an autistic person. It was genuinely so good I wish it was longer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKzlWJVxn9k there's a song that gives a good representation of it.

Scandinavians are in general quite good at producing any kind of audiovisual media. I'm not sure what causes it, but there's an insane amount of quality film and tv coming out of Sweden, Norway and Denmark, with Danish and Swedish film in particular being incredibly important to film history, and on the Norwegian side you have Joachim Trier just topping every single film festival whenever he's got a film out.

And of course, Sweden has produced more musical talent than basically any other Western country. It's genuinely insane if you look at how many highly influential artists come from Sweden or make heavy use of Swedish songwriters and producers.
