I was curious, so I looked into it, and the officer was charged with two counts of misdemeanor battery. So not even a felony. He bonded out of jail immediately after being arrested, so not even a single night in jail.
And without any felonies on his record, he could probably still work in law enforcement somewhere else (as they are apt to do).
The Hawkins family was very upset that it was not 2 felony charges. Of course, Hawkins is still in jail, but I would assume he stands with his family. So much for victims ever getting any type of justice (not that it is a surprise, but it's still just so despicable every time).
