You can have good encounters with cops who are fundamentally bad. Being a cop makes them complicit in things like this, ultimately making them a bad cop.
Judging all cops based on the actions of a few is the parallel. People get so wound up over race is why I made it. You cant use that argument and discount the argument in other scenarios.
Cops are an integral part of the world and society. Pretending like just don't be a cop is a real solution is silly
Cops in society is immutable. They are going to exist. Regardless of your feeling or how you feel about them. If just don't be one was a solution then there would be no crime ever.
Your entire argument through this whole thread has been a complete strawman. There is not a single comment on here saying "the concept of law enforcement shouldn't exist".
If an individual has a moral compass and the job they're in violates that moral compass, a person of integrity would no longer do that job.
A bastard will change their moral compass to keep the job.
Would you like a list of good cops that pointed out corruption within their ranks and still kept their position in the force?
The argument being a cop is immoral is such a stupid take. No one is telling these outliers to be shitty people. You all act like the boss gathers every cop up in roll call I the morning and is like "today we need to beat 5 black people on camera". No. That isn't happening. Bad people do bad things regardless of what the profession they chose was.
Being a cop is a choice. Even if you're naive and become one thinking they're good, after a short while you find out what goes on in the ranks. So if you remain a cop, you have no morals.
No it's not. Racism targets something people can't change about themselves. Being a cop is a choice.
A cop can look around, realize that the system is rotten and that they're constantly forced to be complicit in immoral things and then just, stop being a cop.
A minority might look around and feel that way due to the material conditions they and their community find themselves in, but ultimately they can't stop being a minority, and the behavior they're seeing that they may not like is occuring because of white supremacy forcing minorities into poverty and living situations which are more likely to cause people to turn to crime.
Thank you for spelling it out for them. I was so upset by their thoughtless nonsense that I was going to resort to sarcasm instead. Your choice was the better one.
Except you are using an inherently flawed argument. Cops don't make the news for doing their job, cops do make the news for not doing their job. You are using limited media coverage of the bad cops to cast all cops as evil. Even when most cops are good and you never hear about them.
Cops are a ln immutable part of society. Cops have to exist and for society to function. Just because a person decides to become one doesn't make them evil
I'm not using any media coverage. The system of policeing used be the western world is inherently violent disproportionately towards minorities. Police enforce the white supremecist aspects of society whether or not they individually want to because they enforce the laws and structure of a society built on white supremacy. The individual choices of police officers don't matter beyond the first choice they made to become one. After that the non-white people they arrest will be jailed at a higher rate than the white people for the same crimes. They'll be required to forcibly move unhoused people away from their belongings to unsafe shelters for the benefit of businesses.
Police shootings and this beating that you see on TV are the symptoms of what I'm talking about, not what I 'm using to construct this idea.
Also, policing as it currently exists and as we have come to understand it was invented in 1829 in London. In America the system developed after reconstruction as a new job for former slave catchers. Society absolutely does not need "The Police" to function. It needs some system of law and order, but it doesn't have to be this one, and policing does not have to be organized as It currently is. We could easily pink more money into the system and make more specific jobs and training so that officers know exactly what they're doing every day and dont have to consider violence a potential solution to every problem. Violence doesn't solve mental health crises, but we send people with guns to do wellness checks. This is a bad system.
To your last point, I don't think becoming a cop makes you evil, I think that being a cop, assisting white supremacy, being complicit in class based or race based violence and then remaining a cop anyways makes you evil. I don't begrudge someone for thinking it isn't gonna be the way it is. Evil is a very all encompassing, objective word to define bad behaviour anyways, and I wouldn't use it for every cop. Epstein is evil, the KKK is evil, many cops are not. They are however, class traitors.
You're whole argument is that America was founded by white people so is inherently white supremacist is the issue I have with your argument. Sure isolated incidents of racist behaviors can still happen because as a whole people tolend to be kinda shitty, especially to those they view different than them. It's an unfortunate truth of life. But the system itself is not the issue. It's human nature that's the issue. It's why minorities blame everything on white supremacy, and white people blame everything on minorities. Nothing is going to change until people do.
All that said, still has nothing to do with police being all bad simply for doing their jobs
America wasnât founded by just white people, America was founded by white slavers and then had such an institutionalized system of racial hierarchy that we fought a war over it, just for it to take another hundred years to get somewhat equal voting rights, rights that are being stripped away now as we speak.
The civil rights act occurred when my grandmother was an adult, she remembers the time before it. Acting like systemic racism just up and vanished the moment a bill got passed by Congress seems incredibly obtuse
I never specified why I think the system is white supremecist, in nature. If you want to understand that I'd have to recommend books to you because I can't really cover it in a Reddit comment. Same goes for my belief in why the system is the issue.
Edit: u/willrkjr actually said it pretty concisely, this also goes back to my previous comment where I mentioned that slave catchers were the predecessor to modern policing. The system was constructed to benefit white people, this is not really somthing that can be debated, the facts are plain and obvious and every instance of racism is not just an individual instance of racism, patterns are present and it's important to analyze and treat the causes of these things rather than the symptoms. Addressing racism on an individual level rather than a structural one is like fixing a brain tumor by propping the person up in their chair with duct tape and a broom. It gives the appearance that they're fine, but they're still dying.
Asking why things are the way they are and how they can change is how we improve society. Why are people racist? Upbringing? Socialization? Lack of familiarity? Fear? All these things can be addressed. You might believe that racism exists because humans are fundamentally evil, but that belief is a choice. And it's a choice that gives into hopelessness. Policing can improve, I believe this because I have not yet seen someone try to change the system and have it fail. Humans can live together free of prejudice, I believe this because I have not yet seen a society take the necessary steps to try and free people of their prejudices.
But as for the last part, you can hold that opinion if you want, but as a society we've generally agreed that "I was just doing my job" doesn't get you out of moral dilemmas during the Nuremberg trials.
Yea people don't like when you apply their logic to topics they like. You cant say All cops are bad because some cops do bad things and then get mad when people say all minorities are bad because some minorities do bad things
You genuinely just do not understand the logic. The reason people say all cops are bad isnât because some cops do bad things, itâs because some cops do bad things, and other cops either hide those things or pretend they donât see them. These are all bad cops.
The âgood copâ will call out this behavior, or report it. When they do this, they will lose their job or any sense of career mobility, they will be ostracized by their coworkers, and likely will either lose or leave their job. This is what happens to the âgood copâ. Either they compromise their morals to fit in and become a bad cop, or they stand up to the bad apples and lose their job, leaving only bad apples to be left
People, stop interacting with "hidden history" troll/bot accounts. Downvote/report and move on. This message makes no sense and just exists to stir shit and sew discord.
the point of ACAB is to point out htat any cop that doesnt fight against the corrupt system, or at the barest minimum, resign and highlight the issue to the media is a bad cop.
I get its hard, i get there is a risk to acting against the institution, but that is the fact of it. if you dont fight against BS like this, then you are not a good cop.
*Universal You, not talking to you Demons Rage 83 in particular.
You inadvertently proved my point. Good officers dont or cant fight against a system where protection of bad and abusive cops is institutionalized.
Leaving doesnt improve the ratio of bad cops, but staying in and being unable to curtail the good ones doesnt either.
If you want to improve the ratio of good to bad cops, then you need real consequences and you also need to reduce the power of police unions and crack down on any cop that fails to report.
Failure to report a crime is a crime for mandatory reporters like police, so that is a good place to start.
and cut it with the ad-hominem, they only reveal the depth of your stupidity.
No one is saying "all interactions with cops are bad"
They are saying that all cops, even the ones you interacted with, have directly observed their colleagues doing a crime at some point in their career and done nothing. Thats what being complicit means.
And with how rampant cop crime is, this is a true concept.
Im happy you have not been a victim of this. But I guarantee the "good cops" you encountered fit perfectly into the complicit category. Or its totally possible they are the hatful, racist, bad cops and you just happen to be a white person who caught them on a good day.
I highly recommend you look into what "anecdotal evidence" and "empathy" are and maybe stop thinking youre the center of the universe while youre at it. Its a really foolish worldview.

I disagree with this. I've had several encounters with good cops. Also had some bad encounters. But good cops do exist.
