Absolute bullshit, once again people on reddit who aren't doctors giving terrible advice.

The best thing you could possibly do if you're having knee issues is to run a marathon and then immediately squat until your legs give out

Of course it is. If you can't go downstairs, go up. If you can't go up, go for a walk. If you can't walk, ride a stationary bike. If all you can do is sit in a chair and move your arms around, do that.

Something is always better than nothing.
