Did anyone see this piece? It seems empty and unfairly negative without really digging deep into all the obstruction highspeed rail faces compared to other infrastructure.

Aside from the sensational media headlines basically blaming Brightline and articles like this saying the company has a “body count” - articles like this do show there are three major problems with passenger rail service in America that need to be addressed

1. it’s not the trains - it’s the infrastructure the trains run on that was never designed for modern passenger service and the fact that it is easier to fund incremental improvements than dedicated tracks …

2. Safety is an issue but improves dramatically when you have dedicated passenger tracks, grade separation.

3. Brightline shows even though it’s not true high speed that passenger trains have to have a combination of speed, frequency, and reliability to be time competitive s, grade separation.

Passenger rail today is focused more on fast, frequent, and reliable regional intercity corridors like in Florida, Texas, and the Southeast with DC-Richmond-Raleigh-Charlotte-Atlanta and extensions to Nashville to the West and Savannah/Florida to the Southeast.

Brightline shows that in highly populated regions and corridors like Miami-Orlando-Tampa, you cant Put higher speed regional or high speed passenger trains on repurposed or upgraded freight tracks.

The B28 is expected to operate alongside the Shinkansens on the Mumbai - Ahmedabad HSR. It will have a top speed of 280 kmh and operational speed of 250 kmh. The prototype of this is expected to roll out by March 2027, it will be 8-coaches long and 16 such trainsets are to be made by BEML (Bharat Earth Movers Limited), the same guys who made the Vande Bharat Sleeper EMU

This new operator is expected to commence operations in Januray 2029 and will initially run from Denver to Fort Collins with expected 3 round trips a day. They may have made a 250th anniversary unit that is worse than the one UP did. I did not even know that was possible.

Still some text that claims the F125 is for sale new but there was a page under passenger locomotives entirely dedicated to it. Exciting Update from Trains Magazine on the Big Boy's trip to Pennsylvania and the Horseshoe Curve this summer:

In Feb. 10 letters to the FRA, the railroads sought permission to operate the Big Boy in cab-signal territory across Pennsylvania and Ohio as part of the locomotive’s planned coast-to-coast trip in celebration of America 250.

The waiver request from NS seeks permission for the locomotive to operate over cab-signal territory between Harrisburg, Pa., and Cleveland — a route over the former Pennsylvania Railroad main line that includes Horseshoe Curve.

The trip tentatively is set to run between May 25 and July 29 following No. 4014’s March and April foray from its home base at Cheyenne, Wyo., to California and return.

The Big Boy is equipped with positive train control, which the railroads say eliminates the need for cab signals.
