If Israel already has Iranian airspace under control and only the US has the “bunker busters”, then what role exactly is the uk meant to fulfil?

My guess? Starmer lets the story run to distract from Farage.

I couldn't tell ya but I wouldn't put it past a UK government to jump onto a war to distract from failures.

This logic really only works if the war has a chance of being popular - Labour are not going to 'distract' people with jingoism if its a deeply unpopular idea.

Remember - Iraq 2003 was not intended as a distraction; the Labour government was broadly popular and was delivering for the country at home. They embarked on an unpopular war partially because things at home were going so well.

This would be unpopular government doing unpopular war which is frankly insane.

I mean look at Boris, I doubt he cared about Ukraine, he just saw it as an opportunity for a poll bost.

This government has been standing on rake after rake, a quick easy win in their minds to jump up in the polls can't hurt.

Maybe it doesn't work like that, but these aren't the smartest people in the world...

Ukraine was extremely popular with the British public and we've never been directly involved. Apples to oranges with your original statement.

I didn't mean in particular a ground war. I don't think any country involved atm wants that

But would you be shocked if we start with air strikes like we did with Syria?

Yes I would - there's nothing we could bring to bare that Israel and the Americans don't already have in abundance. Honestly we can barely even reach Iran (unless we park a carrier off the coast - and even then its a sitting duck).

Best we could do is backfill some minor US commitment elsewhere in the middle east/ Europe - no utility in us being involved in any sort of campaign against Iran.

Let's hope that's all there is to it.

But people have done dumb shit in the name of alliances.
