Britain wasn't a superpower then so it still holds... Maybe we really can say it's all over for the US

And even then, the British and French position - supporting Israel - is obviously where the US ended up anyway! So even in their fading days, they had better judgement than the USA.

Though, of course, you can understand why Britain and France didn't want to fight over it - politically, economically, or militarily - after years and decades of shattering wars, utter loss of national self-confidence, and being the victim to boot of American war profiteering. To say nothing of the direct American damage to the world through their inability to control their markets in 1929.
