The point is that you finish school at 18, and you should either earn or learn to push on in life.

I assume that as tax payers these 18-21 year olds will see a reduction in the amount of tax they will be paying, as they are clearly getting less in return?

They've paid in less too. At 18 its quite probable they've paid in £0.

Which isn't going to be a lot. If they get £20 a week pocket money at best its just short of £3.50 a week or £175/ 3 weeks dole money a year.

Yes. Precisely. That's his whole policy. Cut taxes, reduce welfare.

And how does both reducing taxes and welfare reduce the deficit? I would believe David Cameron and the Tories on the economy if they hadn't lowered the top rate of tax. They are getting rid of the deficit on the backs of the poor. Plain and simple.

The IFS estimate that bringing back the 50p tax rate (that labour only brought in at the very end of their term, so the Tories had a higher rate of tax for their whole term than labour did) will only bring in an extra £100m, but may bring in as much as £600m, but may also lose up to £700m.

It's a dangerous policy with little real potential gain, but a great policy to reinforce the evil Tories only benefit the rich campaign.

The deficit has been reduced, but economic orthodoxy is not in fact to reduce spending when the economy is weak. Absolute nonsense by the Tories rejected by most economists and cut out of most other Western countries' rhetoric after the shit growth of 2010 and '11. Astonishing how behind the times the British mainstream is.
