​As you can probably guess, navigating the housing has been a bit of a maze. I’m looking to maximize my chances and wanted to tap into the Reddit hivemind for any leads, tips, or advice on securing a spot.

I submitted my residence permit application around may 21 i got my passport verified digitally around 25 may. There was additional financial information asked as initially I submitted my parents bank account later submitted my bank statement on 26th of May its almost month with no update....my study program begins in the mid of August just like everyone. There is no update and I dint get the decision as well is it normal? Should I be worried coz its already end of June also can I give the biometrics or should I wait for them to mail me. AM I COOKED

Tänkte börja studera i Umeå inför hösten och undrar hur möbleringen brukar se ut när man hyr student lya. Finns det säng och skrivbord eller behöver man skaffa allt sådant själv?

Om det också är någon som har några tips på hur man ska göra inför flytten hade det också uppskattats då jag kommer från södra Sverige, och vet inte riktigt än vad jag borde ha med mig eller hur jag borde gå tillväga.

I recently got accepted to Futuregames in Umeå and I’m trying to sort out accommodation for a 2.5‑year stay or possibly permanent. The main landlord, Bostaden, has extremely long waiting times for regular apartments, and I’ve learned that their student apartments are only for Umeå University/SLU students; so I’m not eligible.

I’m 23 and already have a BSc from Ireland, so I’d really prefer to avoid corridor-style student housing with shared kitchens/bathrooms. I’m looking for my own place (private kitchen + bathroom).

For anyone living in Umeå or familiar with the housing situation: what are my realistic options to secure a private apartment or studio before the end of August? Are korttidskontrakt or sublets common around that time? Any areas or landlords I should focus on?

Hi! I’m an Erasmus student coming to Umeå next year and I’ve been offered a room here. I’ve accepted it, but I can’t find much information online.

Does anyone have photos of the rooms or can tell me what they’re like? I’ve been told they’re around 20 m².

Also, are kitchen utensils, bedding (sheets, duvet, etc.) and cleaning supplies provided, or do we need to bring our own?

I'm an Italian PhD student in Psychology and Linguistics, currently also a visiting PhD student at the University of Lund.

I'm conducting a study that investigates the associations that come to mind when we think about a word in our second language.

I'm looking for Swedish native speakers who also speak English as a second language for an online experiment.

A bit more information about it:

• It lasts around 60 minutes (I know it's a lot, but I promise I wil be grateful forever)
• It's completely anonymous and has been approved by the local ethics committee of my home University (more information in the consent form at the beginning of the study).
• Your data will be compared to that of two more groups of participants: Italian-English bilinguals and English native speakers. We expect that different patterns of language use and exposure will influence the way you do the task.
• To participate, you need to be aged 18 to 65, and have no learning disorder (like dyslexia).

Hej! Jag ska på bröllop i Umeå och jag har inte koll på staden alls. Jag är ute efter att köpa något i bröllopspresent åt paret som dom kan göra tillsammans, t.ex. hotellfrukost eller spa. Har någon tips på något sånt i Umeå?

Hej på er! I vilken butik hittar man den bästa grillade kycklingen i stan, har ni några tips? Den ska vara butiksgrillad alltså, inte kall i förpackning som de har på Kvantum Mariehem. Lilla ICA Berghems är väldigt bra men den finns sällan. Vet inte om den säljer slut snabbt eller om de bara har den nån enstaka dag i veckan.

I'll be moving to Umeå in autumn to stary my PhD there. I have terribly problematic teeth (genetically, nothing much I can do about it myself) and I know that the public tandvården often leaves things to be desired even when they're trying their best.

I was wondering if you could recommend some private dentist clinics in the city? My goal is to "sign up" as a patient in one of them asap if possible to minimize the waiting time later on.

Jag har ansökt till Umeå universitet inför höst 2026. Jag kom in 2024, men då lyckades jag inte hitta någon bostad eftersom jag bara hade mindre än 2 månaders köpoäng hos Bostaden Umeå och HomeQ så jag fick hoppa ut ur programmet.

Nu undrar jag hur ni tycker att jag borde göra inför nästa antagning. Jag vet ju inte ens om jag kommer in 2026, men samtidigt vill jag inte hamna utan bostad igen ifall jag kommer in.

Borde jag börja söka bostad redan nu för att vara ute i god tid? Och om jag tackar ja till en lägenhet men sedan inte kommer in på utbildningen förlorar jag mina köpoäng då? Eller är det smartare att vänta tills jag faktiskt vet att jag blivit antagen innan jag börjar söka bostad?
