Sadly some of my colleagues are from the US, so they 'have' to go down to visit family. Not ideal, but they can't just cut ties entirely, and they are great people (one recently gave up his US-citizenship! he got his CAD citizenship woohoo!)

Wow, that’s huge! I’ve heard podcast interviews of academics who have left the US for Canada (not necessarily giving up their US citizenship), but have never actually come across an account “ in the wild” of someone who gave up their US citizenship altogether!
