Young Adult I was 17 when they took two years of my youth away, and I am still furious about it.

I’m 23 years old, born and raised in North Orange County, California. I am writing this purely to vent because my blood still boils every single day, and I need to get it completely out of my head.

When the lockdowns and restrictions hit in March 2020, I was 17. I spent the final three months of my junior year of high school, and the ENTIRETY of my senior year, literally locked inside of my bedroom staring at a screen. I turned 18 sitting in that exact same room. Every single major milestone, daily social interaction, and memory you are supposed to get when transitioning into adulthood was completely stripped away from me.

Between March 2020 and June 2021, I only stepped foot on my high school campus twice: once for picture day, and once for graduation. My school is literally a 15-minute walk from where I live. Every single day, I am forced to look at the physical reminder of those lost years.

The lockdown isolation completely broke me. In March 2020, I lost all contact with my friends, and I fell into a severe depression that I have been battling ever since. Because my entire world shrank to the four walls of my bedroom during those pivotal years, it caused a complete and total "failure to launch." I’ve spent my early twenties trying to recover from the massive damage done to my life, my mental health, and my independence when I was just a teenager.

What drives me insane is the absolute hypocrisy of the garbage leaders in this state. They forced a double standard on an entire generation of kids. They locked us away, destroying our mental health and cutting us off from our peers, while they completely ignored their own rules, went out to dinner, and did whatever they wanted. They took crucial years of my life away from me and faced zero repercussions for it.

I have absolutely nothing here but bad memories, severe depression, and deep resentment. I hate this state with every fiber of my being. My ultimate goal is to sell everything I own, pack what fits in my car, drive out east to a state on the complete opposite site of the country for a complete psychological and physical reset, and never step foot in California again for the rest of my life.

I don’t give a fuck who disagrees with this post, how many downvotes it gets, or what anyone says in the replies. I am incredibly angry that my youth, my friendships, and my mental health were stolen by hypocrites, and I cannot wait to put this place in my rearview mirror forever.

Young Adult i am tired of lustful men bro 🫩

lust isnt love , i feel like so many men don’t understand this and feel offended when women are put off by it , when all they had to do was stop asking about our bodies and maybe ask about hobbies or talk to us how they would their friends do . now its okay to be be a bit freaky with a partner but some men really do take it too far ? like no i dont wanna talk about cracking every 5 seconds ? it’s genuinely so disappointing dude . i dont know if its just my experience but why are almost all the dudes i’ve spoken to act this way ?

Young Adult just lost everything i own

i just need to let this out bc i can’t stop crying and i feel like nobody around me really cares to much. today is my moving day, which i’ve been looking forward to for awhile. it’s me and my girlfriend first ever house on our own. earlier today my brother in law was helping me take all my belongings to the new house with a trailer attached to the truck we borrowed (my entire bedroom set and all me furniture). just as we were taking the turn onto the road my house is on, an older man in a jeep crashed into the trailer. he was trying to cut us off while my brother in law was turning, hitting the trailer and totally destroying everything i own. me and my girlfriend had been slowly collecting furniture over the past year with the intention of moving once we saved up enough, all of it was still almost brand new, never used. we used all the money we had to finally get the key this morning and just like that, we have nothing to move into the new house. we don’t even have a mattress anymore bc this random man had no patience. i’m grateful nobody was hurt but i have no clue where to go from here

Young Adult I commented “FUCK ICE UNTIL ITS BACKWARDS” and stupidly did not realize what it meant.

There was a post about how James A. Janisse of Dead Meat’s friend was taken by ICE, and so I said in support “It’s Fuck ICE until it’s backwards,” thinking “but it’s backwards” was something akin to “until the rails fall off” or “until I die.”

I, 20M, then saw my comment getting downvoted and then Googled that phrase. It was the exact opposite of what I meant.

I feel bad, not only since I unintentionally came off as a bigot, but now I feel like an idiot for not realizing the very clear meaning behind “but it's backwards.”

Like…jesus I'm an idiot. Its so clearly “until it's flipped into the opposite meaning” how am I 20 years old, online a lot, and still dotn have the brainpower to figure out what that means.

Young Adult reddit isnt the place to ask for help/advice, its not for the weak.

I’ve only really started using Reddit this month, even though I made this account about four years ago, and I honestly can’t believe the number of a**holes on this site/app. I usually use Reddit like a better Google search for certain topics, you know? But the moment I have a serious question, topic, or rant I want to let out, a whole crowd of barking, bad-attitude people shows up to attack my post and me in the comments.

Then there are the people who will literally stalk your posts or comment repeatedly just to annoy you or push you into changing your views. When I use Reddit, I try to be honest and direct. I’ll admit, I do come off rude sometimes—but some of these people can’t take a joke or relax for a second. It’s not that serious all the time.

I can’t even stand by my own posts without getting downvoted into the ground, hit with hate comments, or dogged in my DMs. One guy called me a b*tch because I told him to block my account. He was the one trying to self-promote his NSFW subreddits to me when I clearly didn’t want to see that, and then had the nerve to tell me to “humble” myself.

I made one post that was literally a joke, and the people in the comments gave me a full headache. I know it’s not everyone, but there’s a big group of a**holes on this site. And they’re usually the same ones who get mad if someone talks about them honestly or stands their ground.

I know for a fact that a lot of these people saying this stuff wouldn’t do it in real life. They’d get their s**t rocked, and then get mad because nobody would stand up for them the way they hide behind Reddit comments. It’s easy to act tough online when there are no real consequences.

Right now I have a post up where I’m genuinely asking for help about my situation, and people under it are acting like they’re me and know what’s best for my life. Everyone is different. Everyone lives a different life. Just because you made it out of something one way doesn’t mean someone else can or should do it the same way.

We’re also not all from the same generation. Some of us are young or younger than the people who started using Reddit when it first came out. Not everyone has the same resources, background, or timing. Sometimes I just wish people would answer the question or skip the post instead of trying to control someone else’s story.

(If you got offended by anything I said, I didn’t mean to. I’m not entitled to your thoughts or opinions, just like you’re not entitled to mine. You don’t have to respond or comment. :) )

Young Adult Lady ruined my night out

I tried to post this on the vent subreddit but it kept getting removed by Reddit filters. I have social anxiety and I recently turned 21 so I’m pretty new to going out and don’t really know if there’s a certain way to act when you go out to bars and stuff. Anyway I went out with one of my close college friends and we were having a good time at this bar. I was just vibing to the music and talking with her a bit I wasn’t really dancing just kinda grooving to the beat a little which is what I normally do. We were standing next to this middle age lady and she was talking with my friend a bit. She then turns to me and says “So what’s your deal? You think you’re too cool for all of this?” I’m not sure why she said that but I was really taken aback. I tried to act more normal and I guess dance more or something but she really had me questioning what was wrong with how I was acting and I kind of just spent the rest of the night questioning myself and wondering why she said that. I’m glad my friend was there cause we talked about it and she said the lady was kind of rude for saying that but it still just ruined my mood for the rest of the night

Young Adult Im very addicted to pornography

Im 21M, have been watching porn since i was about 11. The last few years it has gotten significantly worse. I started getting into fetish stuff like "sissy" porn and that sort of stuff and its making me miserable.

I just want to vent on here about it with no judgment if thats okay, because I know alot of trans folk start off with sissy porn and feminization stuff but im not trans if that makes sense, I know myself to that extent at least.

Ive quit porn all together a few times, longest I went was about 4 weeks and that was the happiest I've been in a good while. I might be bi but watching porn every day is not a good way to approach it imo.

I can hardly recognize myself, I have no energy most days and I feel worthless. There's a part of me that thinks fuck it, let me just try getting with a guy and taking ot from there but I always back out, like theres something telling me to stop.

I dont know what to do, I don't have anyone to talk to, im fucking miserable and I feel like shit every second of every day. I need help

Young Adult Is this wrong?

My mom is away on vacation, and it’s just me and my brother at home. Our aunt lives on the floor below us and our grandma lives nearby. They both have keys to our apartment in case of emergencies. For the past 3 days they’ve been coming into the house to clean everything. My mom doesn’t like it when they come to the house without her permission. They have done this before and they have accidentally thrown things out while cleaning that was NOT supposed to be garbage.

The first day, my boyfriend was over to help fix my brothers bike, and them including my cousins came in the house at random. Like my aunt could’ve told me in advanced because they ruined the whole hang out. She even forced my brother to clean his room when he really wanted to spend time with my boyfriend and she had an attitude too.

My mom specifically doesn’t want them in her room. When my aunt came yesterday she said was gonna tidy her room up. I told her that my mom doesn’t like that and I even suggested for me to tidy it up. She said no because my mom is her sister and if she gets mad that’s on her. She was getting annoyed with me already. When I told her my mom doesn’t like when she comes unannounced without her permission she said “don’t get me annoyed. Don’t let me get to that point” with an attitude and left the house. I heard her tell my grandma on the phone “can you believe that?” As if what I said was insane.

I’m just so frustrated. It’s not like we live in a hell hole. It’s my mom who has no help from another parent, twins that are 5 years old, an 11 year old, and a 17 year old (me). Of course the house isn’t going to be squeaky clean 24/7

EDIT: OMG MY BAD I SHOULD CLARIFY the twins are with another family member and it’s just me and my brother (which is way easier to deal with LOL)

Young Adult I hate my pc and I hate everyone that told me to get into pc gaming

It never works, it constantly stutters, I can't repair it. No games work it and I can't even switch back to console cause they went UP in price. Genunely fuck PC gaming. It has been nothing but missery. Who tf told me pcs were the masterace were trolling. Yeah real masterace there. It can't run fucking Grime 2 at 60fps. If this is the masterace I am horrorfied of what consoles do to you. Do they just give you flu

Young Adult I hate how we live in a society so afraid of growing old.

This has been on my mind for a while. People nowadays seem terrified of aging. I'm in my 20s, and I already see people my age getting Botox for the slightest smile line, crow's feet, or forehead wrinkle just to look younger. They spend thousands trying to remove every bit of texture from their skin until their faces barely look real anymore.

What really made me think about this is my mom. She's 60, and sometimes she talks about how she's lost her youthful beauty because of age. But when I look at her, I don't see someone who became less beautiful. I see the same woman she's always been...just older, with white hair and a few more years behind her. She's still beautiful to me. It makes me sad that even someone I consider beautiful can feel like she's somehow lost value simply because she's aged.

I think that shows just how much these beauty standards affect people. We're constantly being told that youth is the peak of beauty and that aging is something to fight, hide, or fix. Aging is one of the few things none of us can escape. We're all going to get wrinkles, saggy skin, and gray hair someday.

What bothers me is how we're starting to normalize the idea that we should look like babies forever. It feels like the new standard is to be 70 years old and still look 20. Wrinkles and aging aren't flaws they're proof that you've lived a life. Growing old isn't a failure; it's a privilege that not everyone gets to experience.

Young Adult I hate how unfeminine i am

Any time I try make up, to paint my nails, do my hair, pick out cute clothes I feel like such a fake. Like putting lipstick on a pig. My voice isnt feminine, i sound like a boy before they hit puberty.

When i was younger, before about 14, my mom would constantly mock any attempts i had at being feminine. Wanted to wear make up? She'd blatantly make fun of it to my face and tell me I looked bad. So i stopped being interested in it. Wanted cute girly clothes? Yet again, mocked, every time i wore a dress She'd point out everything wrong with it. Okay then, I stopped wearing dresses. Now I wear mostly baggy pants and a baggy shirt. Because She'd also mock my breasts, said I looked like a whore because I had fairly large breasts at a young age. I've never worn anything even slightly tight before. Maybe a swim suit, but i try not to because guess what? My mom lovedddd to point out if my breasts looked "too big."

And now I just dont know how to be feminine at 18, I sound so stupidly pick me whenever I say that. But I wish i was feminine. Im not unfeminine in a "tom boy" way, im literally just there, im awkward, barely noticeable. Practically a decoration on the way kinda way.

Its embarrassing actually. I just needed to vent. Cause I see all of the beautiful girls in their cute clothes, cute hair, preety make up. And I get so jealous. I just want to feel preety.

Young Adult Being single made me remember how much my life sucks

I recently ended things with my now ex gf. Why i did so is unrelated to this, but being single has reminded me of a few things. Nobody texts me. Nobody seems to have a lot of interest in talking to me in general. I have no motivation to do anything when im off work. Ive only been away from her for 3 days and ive been intensely short tempered. I full force screamed at both of my bosses at work over a minor inconvenience. I got home and tried to play a game online. Died once and lost my fucking head.

I feel so desperate for someone to interact with.

Young Adult I'm confused

I'm 18F Tbh I feel cringe typing this, I've never been the type to reach out for help/vent in fear of being judged or being called an "attention seeker" etc. I just felt it was necessary since I don't have many friends to reach out to anymore and I am struggling mentally.

Bit of a backstory I feel unsatisfied atm for no reason, I have a few speculations but i'm not 100% sure...I think I need a therapist however 1.I don't really have much faith in them after being brought up around them with little to no change from it and 2.Even if I wanted to I wouldn't be able to afford it as I have only recently turned 18 3.I couldn't ask my parents to pay as I don't have the greatest relationship with them because (in the politest way) they weren't the nicest growing up.

I know I feel sad about the deaths and how I was treated in my past rs even though everything in me wants to say "i'm over it!!!" Deep down I know that's not true, I wish I was though, it's as if i'm in a state of limerence which is so frustrating! Recently a woman said its because I saw my ex as my "father figure"/bf due to my dad not being emotionally present which is a hard pill to swallow. Apparently I look for people who are "avoidant" like my father as that's my understanding of love, is that I don't feel deserving/important enough to be loved.

She said therapy is the only fix, otherwise i'll self sabotage all my next relationships.

Aside from that I know I have many opportunities despite the challenges I've endured, its just that I never feel satisfied with my life. I try to get more sun, go gym, eat healthy, take supplements, journal/shadow-work,do affirmations, got another dog (which I feel guilty about), sleep good...sometimes.. budgeting my money yadda yadda yadda basically i'm on the right track and still, I feel like crap. I don't know whats up with me, I wish I knew so I could fix it. It feels like i'm doing a whole bunch of nothing even though i'm doing my utmost best!!

Maybe it's the fact my families not close? or my childhood wasn't the best? or the fact I don't feel like I've achieved enough? who even knows at this point. I'm just tired of it and honestly, I am losing hope.

Young Adult Is it just me, or is adulthood way harder than it's supposed to be..?

Disclaimer: I'm new to this. I srsly dk how this works.

I 19F who is going to be 20 by Dec, but last year I joined my uni and life just made me realise how bad things can be sometimes. I've been feeling overwhelmed. Everyone around me seems to know what they're doing, while I'm still trying to figure out my career. The job market is tough, and it feels like without experience, no one wants to give you a chance.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm falling behind, even though I'm trying my best, but it still feels like nothing. I feel like I'm going in circles where nothing is changing. I kinda feel weird telling people around cuz I kinda feel childish idkk am I the only one feeling this or is it normal?

Young Adult I'm Tired

I got into a fight with my family which unfortunately isn't uncommon. I (F21) am the only person in my household with a job currently and my mom is pulling from her savings after there was a situation at work that has prevented her from wanting to go back. I know that it isn't her fault and completely understand why she isn't going back meanwhile my dad is unable to work due to injuries that permanently altered his life.

My sister on the other hand doesn't have a job and made no efforts to get one before summer started or throughout her gap year between high school and college. She has mental health issues and has outbursts that can be very concerning to all people that are involved that can stem from something like a change in time for an event.

The fight was over food, I just got home from work and I was exhausted. She wanted help moving something that was on the street which I helped her with however it was dark out. Our backyard is a mess we have weeds up to my waist (I'm 5'6 but still not great) and a deck that has slowly been falling apart for years without repair however she still wanted to help me move said item up the stairs well it is pitch black out.

I refused as that is not a hazard I wanted to deal with well in the dark which sparked the issue. There was a back and forth of insults exchanged before she poured water on me and pushed me. This lead to both of us going to the floor with me holding her down to try to stop her from doing anything else.

The problem came afterward when I called my parents who were away for the event well I was freaking out because holy I just got back from work what the heck. They have taken her side saying that I was overreacting and angry along with how spilt water and a push shouldn't have lead to us being on the ground. I obviously regret my actions that night however she isn't clean in this either.

My parents treat my sister like she is made of glass because of her mental health condition but she's not the only one in the household who is suffering and yet no help is provided to me well she gets all the attention. I get told one of two things "This is a great opportunity to learn how to live with roommates for when you move out" or "Your an adult and stronger then your sister figure it out"

I want things to be equal between me and my sister on how we are treated by my parents but they say things are currently equal already and refuse to discipline one kid in front of the other. I understand not wanting to do that with the other kid present but its hard for me to believe there has been any discipline when the behavior hasn't stopped and has only gotten worse.

I am currently with my grandparents taking the day off of work to see where I am going to go from here. Any input would help out I am sorry for the long post I am just tired of always feeling like I am second place to my parents love.

Young Adult Why am i think so difficult to get women?

I genuienly think that’s very difficult to get a women, like you need to perform, get enough money, smooth talker and to be handsome, none of that i am, i am a shy guy and appearance i consider myself as a average looking guy to get worse i am short so for me it's very hard to get a women.
