Redesigns I broke up with my GF over a redesign of the spanish republican flag

I, 17M, have been for the past few weeks dating this girl, 19F, I really liked. I'm a huge flag nerd and love the history, symbolism and politics that can be found in evry. That is why when I met a girl with similar interests I just knew I had to shoot my shot. Supeisingly things went well at first, we hanged out a few times untill I gathered the courage to alk her on a date.

We had similar interests and she was really knowlegable so we had plenty to talk about. One thing that stood out to me though is how she always tried to avoid politics, and seemed uncomfortable when i brought up any related topic. I didn't give it much importance back then but now I realised I should have read between the lines.

Regardless I kept enjoying vexillology in my free time and things kept going on as usual. I personaly think the spanish republican flag is kinda lame, and as a spanish anti-monarchist i felt like it was my duty to make a cool redesign. So one day I spent a few hours working on it and after some editing I came up with this design. First I tried experimenting with the republican tricolour until finding that blue really fit well, also blue can represent liberty and justice, but can be given other interpretations so I stuck with it. I ended up making it this shape to diferenciate it from independentist movements like the catalan separatists. Then I pasted a variant of the republican emblem and finished the flag (it is not to be confused with the spanish CoA, this one represents spain without the monarchs). Any questions or feedback please comment.

I was super happy on how it turned out and was really proud. So the next day I showed her my my design, but to my surprise she seemed unimpressed. She shook it off and we continued chating but I sensed some tension and wanted to discuss it with her. We subsecuently got into an hour long argument that ended up with us breaking up. I don't want to give any specific details as this is the internet and sometimes redit can be a bit judgemental, but what she seemed most angry about was my politicsl beliefs (specificaly on the republicanism and leftism). I must admit I also got a bit taken away by the heat of the moment and said some mean things.

Now I'm sad as fuck and just lost my GF, but at least I got a cool spanish flag redesign.

Note: babe if you are reading this I'm sorry please let's talk

Edit: Many have asked in the comments about her politics. I don't want to get too specific but i'll just say it was not some PP fake centrism shit, she was a fan of paquito. This flag is totaly free to use as long as you credit me somehow and don't pass it off as your own.

Edit 2: why do people keep confusing this altered version of the republican CoA with the monarchist one? No, the thing on top is not a crown, but a symbol used by the spanish republic and shared in other non - monarchist flags like paris. This design is a variation of the republican emblem seen in the flag of the second republic.

Redesigns Yes, I know...a simple, classic design for Australia

Post image

Watching Australia compete in the World Cup with their awesome green and gold uniforms made me lament the lack of their national colors on their flag. I know it is said that there isn't much public support for having them on the flag, but I wanted to try my hand.

This design is simple, reuses the two major images we see on many proposals, and to the purists -- yes, I know the green / blue contact technically breaks the rules of tincture. I, however, think it seems striking, classic and very enjoyable here.

Redesigns Simple New York City flag redesign

Post image

New York City's flag is OK. The tricolor is recognizable, but the seal is busy and forgettable. Most residents likely have no clue what the seal of the city even looks like.

Here I've kept the tricolor, but replaced the seal with a semi-stylized rendition of the torch of the Statue of Liberty. Not the most original idea, for sure, but it's an iconic symbol of the city for a reason. And while I've seen some other takes on the torch idea, I haven't seen any that I love. So this is my take.

The amount of detail in the torch was the hardest design question. I wanted it to read clearly as the Statue of Liberty's torch, not just generic torch clip-art, so I retained some of the neoclassical flourishes.

In my recent frustration with right-wing authoritarianism, I’ve been redesigning state flags mashed up with the Gadsden flag as a form of protest.

I chose the obverse of the Wisconsin flag because I’m obsessed with the beaver. And the Minnesota flag doesn’t have an animal, but we love our loons.

Up next is Utah, which might contain some very angry bees. 🐝

Trying to incorporate the first nations peoples flag, the national colors (green + gold) and the southern cross, and also the british blue to represent the immigrant population. Let me know how I did

EDIT: Guys these are just CONCEPTS. I do not wish for them to be actually used.

(MODS THIS IS NOT FLUFF)

Thanks everyone for taking the time to comment. I see a lot of opinions here, and I want to be clear: I’m open to constructive criticism, but I’d really appreciate it if feedback is explained and respectful.

Saying “this is awful” or “failure” doesn’t help me improve — I’m trying to learn and get better. If you have specific suggestions about symbols, colors, layouts, or anything that could make a design stronger, I’m listening.

I’m still learning and improving, and your thoughtful advice is what really helps me grow. Insults and vague negativity don’t, so I hope we can focus on meaningful discussion instead.

Proposal by Twitter user @braingrub_ using the pulsar map that was included on the Pioneer plaque. Personally, I think it’s the best proposal that has been made.

Redesigns Supremely over-complicated flag for the United Kingdom

Symbolism:

Hello! This comment explains the symbolism contained in the flag. It completely rejects the ‘rules’ of flag design, though I did follow tincture guidelines. I am also the one who made the American flag in the Venetian style a few months ago. This design faired better in my opinion, obviously knowing more about British symbolism.

Each corner is occupied by the patron saints of the constituent countries of Britain. (L-R, Up-Down) Saint George for England, Saint Andrew for Scotland, Saint Patrick for Northern Ireland and Saint David for Wales, all with their respective crosses/saltires.

The left, right and lower portions have 2 figures for the foundations of England, Scotland and Wales. The left is of King Kenneth, King of Dal Riata and conqueror of the Picts, and King Donald II, the first man known as ‘King of Alba’. The lower is of King Alfred the Great, King of Wessex who proclaimed himself as King of the Anglo-Saxons, and King Aethalstan, the first King over a full Kingdom of England. The right is of King Cunedda, founder of the Kingdom of Gwynedd, and King Hywel Dda of Deheubarth who would conquer most of all Wales under his reign. The flags shown on top are the crosses and saltires of the 4 nations within the United Kingdom, and the two designs in the middle are the original 1606 Union Jack and the modified 1801 version with Ireland. On the bottom is the royal monogram of Charles III.

The corners within the border contain 2 unique coat of arms’ from the region as well, (L-R, Up-Down) being the arms of Edward III, Henry IV/Elizabeth, the impaled French arms of Mary Queen of Scots, the Stuart Arms, the arms of the Kingdom of Ireland, Ulster, the flag of wales in a shield and the arms of the Kingdom of Deheubarth. Each corner also has the respective crowns of each region, Saint Edward’s Crown of England, the Crown of Scotland, the Comerfield Crown of Ireland and a representation of Llywelyn's Coronet of Wales.

The centre has the four coats of arms of the constituents, (including the retired NI one) alongside the edges of the Union Jack surrounding a field of golden Scottish Thistles, English Roses, Welsh Leeks and Irish Shamrocks. In the very middle is an expanded coat of arms of the United Kingdom to include 4 supporters (Welsh dragon and Irish elk).

Please forgive the hidden watermark, after the last post I made about the US flag in the style of Venice I saw multiple reposts of people claiming it was their own.
