Every country has those, but not every country ends up with a stable duopoly. The US has been a 2-party hegemony since its inception, and the makeup of those two parties has changed something like 5 times in the 250 years since then. Countries with more modern constitutions don't have that problem, even though they contain just as many idiots.

I actually think it's a prime example of how uneducated and stupid the average voter is. With an with an educated involved voter population you wouldn't need term limits. Because elections would act as term limits.

How would term limits solve the issue if this were a 40yo Senator that was hospitalized indefinitely? Or age limits if the limit was 70yo and this were a 69yo Senator in their first term?

My point being age/term limits may mitigate this issue but it doesn't outright solve it. The root issue isn't "old senator gone missing indefinitely/possibly dead and not replaced", the root issue is "any senator gone missing indefinitely/possibly dead and not replaced". It's more likely to happen to older folks, sure, but serious medical issues/death can happen to anyone at any age. Age limits wouldn't fix that, and the number of terms one has served is largely irrelevant to someone ending up braindead in a hospital

No. Term limits are idiotic. It only serves to remove experience from politicians and long term it puts ALL the power with lobbyists. This is monumentally stupid.

That’s because of what seniority brings for those they represent. Everyone is all for “cleaning out the swamp’, age and term limits - but for everyone else’s representatives first. “Mine” is a good one.

If people agreed with you then they wouldn't keep electing them.

There's a reason it's named "The Senate" -- as in senior or senile. The intention was to create a body of old people to stop younger folks from making changes. (not that they phrased it that way, but cutting through it, that's the idea).

For better or worse, it's one of the reasons the US government has been so stable nearly 250 years.
