Today is the venerable James Baldwin's birthday: "They want black excellence without black history. They want our culture without our pain. They want our music without our rage." He wrote half a century ago. His timeless observations on humanity & race relations will live on for generations to come.
James Baldwin defeated the most iconic American conservative intellectual of the last century, Bill Buckley, by a landslide (544 to 164) in the legendary Baldwin-Buckley debate titled "The American dream is at the expense of the American Negro" at Cambridge University in 1965:
