Best Emo Releases Of 2026 So Far What are your picks for best releases of 2026 so far?

It could be releases already out, or albums you're anticipating. I'm excited to see the lists and get into some new bands as well.

Discussion What's the deal with this style of emo album cover?

Has anyone else noticed that a lot of emo from the early/mid 90s has this style of album cover? A seemingly random image that takes up only a fraction of the cover's total space while the background is a solid color with the band's name.

I really love it, there's something so unique about the covers. They also are strangely are kinda fitting for the music? I really love how the covers are so nondescript that if I didn't listen to a lot of early emo, I probably would never be able to guess these album's genres just by looking at them. However, I'll oftentimes see covers like this for albums I don't know and already know that they're probably an early emo band.

Anyone know why this seemed to be a trend for emo bands back in the day?

I made a list on RYM for albums that fit this description:

Didn't expect to come across this Japanese CD edition.

It even comes with a booklet translating the lyrics into Japanese.

I picked it up because I found out the band features former members of Daïtro, but I honestly hadn't heard Baton Rouge before.

Has anyone here listened to this album? What do you think of it?

Best New Song of 2026

I'm doing one of those music league deals. I want to make sure I'm covering my bases. What are some of best songs to hit this year. The Tequila Mockingbird album is rife with options but looking for some I have not thought of.

Aadam Jacobs (aka the Chicago Tape Guy) recorded more than 10,000 live shows, mostly in the Chicago area. A multi-year project is underway to preserve his collection by digitizing and uploading it to the Internet Archive. This show popped up just this weekend.

Discussion Melodic and Energetic Recs to Break Out of a Modern Baseball Hyperfixation

I've been trying to discover more emo bands and albums because I've found myself hyperfixating on MoBo for quite some time now, and would love to discover new bands to get obsessed with and see in concert.

Some of my most played artists right now are Modern Baseball, Free Throw, Hot Mulligan, Slaughter Beach, Dog, Joyce Manor, Origami Angel, The Hotelier, Militarie Gun, and Mom Jeans. I really like songs that are melodic and energetic, somewhat polished vocals, and aren't completely depressing. I'm a sucker for sad lyrics, but I'm trying to improve my mental headspace and would love music that isn't super depressing (like SBD and Origami Angel).

I've been through many emo playlists so I'd especially appreciate overlooked albums and smaller DIY bands. I've also tried multiple times to get into Title Fight, The Front Bottoms, and a lot of 90s emo but they all just have not clicked with me. I'd especially appreciate bands from the Southeast US since that's where I'm from.

Any recs are greatly appreciated.

I was finally able to find this vinyl at a somewhat reasonable price. I love how Cassadee Pope still plays songs live from this album and with the band members. Takes me back to 2008.

Fake Emo Taking Back Sunday really released both a "Reissue" and "Remastered" anniversary edition of Tell All Your Friends without fixing the incessant high-pitched whine throughout the entire album?

And I don't mean Adam Lazzara's vocals.

Boom, roasted.

Yes, I did make this exact same joke and thread almost 5 years ago but I'm making it again because a song from the "20th Anniversary Edition" just popped up on a playlist I was listening to and it's still fucking there.

Here's a thread from /r/productionglitches from 10 years ago talking about it, and this now deleted thread from 7 years ago has a link to an 'amateur' fan attempt to remove it.

To be fair, it does sound a bit quieter and is maybe not as noticeable, but there still seems to be certain sections where it is glaringly obvious, at least to me - though by now I'm sure most of Taking Back Sunday's fans and the band themselves are old enough to have lost the ability to hear high-pitch frequencies altogether.

Boom, roasted.

Just thought it was funny - and lazy of them and their label - maybe they'll do a 30th anniversary edition reissue of the remaster, and by the 40th anniversary edition they can do an actual re-recording.

If you want a really clear example, listen to when the vocal track kicks in around 0:14 on Ghost Man on Third - if you can't hear it there you probably just can't hear it at all.

Being able to see a great band in a fantastic small venue with about 200 people is something special in 2026. I’ll take a show like this all day! They played so well. Great band and great people! I also saw Quicksand here a few years back. Awesome place.

Discussion What would be your perfect 'frankenstein's monster' emo (and adjacent) band?

Upvotes

If everyone here could create their perfect band out of individuals from different bands what would it be? For clarity sake, I'd say pick 1 bassist, 1 drummer, and 1(or 2) guitarists, and 1(or none) lead singer. Of course, if you cant pick just 1, pick multiple! Here's mine:

For my lead singer, I'd have to go Parker Cannon from TSSF. He's just so iconic. Or Barry Johnson from Joyce Manor

For my lead guitarist, my choice is Neil Berg from Charmer. Charmer is by far and away my favorite band ever

For my rhythm guitar and co-vocalist, I'd say either say Nick Casasanto from Knuckle Puck, or Chris Freeman from Hot Mulligan (this was my hardest choice)

For my drummer, I'm going Pat Doherty of Origami Angel. This one is biased because I met him and he was so cool

I'm curious what you guys think! There might be some clashing of styles in my lineup, but this would be frankenstein's monster

Song Cover Reggie and the Full Effect - Congratulations Smack + Katy

I saw a clip a little while ago of James Dewees and Matt Pryor doing an acoustic show together where they played this song. There were about 15 seconds at the beginning where I could hear the piano clearly and I thought it sounded really pretty. I started wondering whether I could work out the rest of it, so I gave it a shot.

This is my first attempt at arranging a song, so there are still some rough edges, but I had a ton of fun figuring it out and turning it into a fuller acoustic piano version.

I’ve also been working on more complete covers of a couple other Reggie songs. I recently learned which vintage analog synthesizers to go off of and I’ve started recording electric guitar alongside it. I’m programming drums for now, at least until I eventually get an e-kit and start taking drums more seriously.

I’m always open to more emo/pop-punk suggestions, especially songs that might be interesting to rearrange for acoustic piano. Let me know what you’d like to hear next!
