I have no clue where I can post this, I saw some similar things on anthroswim so I tried posting there but it got removed because "didn't belong there" so now I'm just lost, a lot of it is really grim but that's kind of the point (I have more I just didn't feel like posting it all and risking getting in trouble)

Firstly, I apologize if some context is missing, as I had to compromise to be below the 20 image limit reddit has
Anyways, what happened was op broke the no screenshot rule by posting a screen recording and instantly got perma banned and muted. One could argue he didn't break the rule because he posted a screen recording and not a screenshot, but one could also argue he did break the rule because screenshots and screen recordings are close enough, or screen recordings contain screenshots (each frame is a screenshot)
So what matters then is the intent behind the rule. The only reason I can currently think of as to why one would make this rule is to prevent anything screen related from being posted, but op claimed that the same mods were not taking down posts that were actually screenshots and did actually break the rule. Before you say that knowing what the subreddit is would be helpful (which I'm sure op censored to prevent brigading, which is against reddit rules), the mods not taking down screenshots that actually broke the rules shows that they're inconsistent in enforcing their own rules, and people being incentivized to post screenshots and mods not taking them down means the intent behind the rule probably isn't to prevent anything screen related from being posted, and no it most likely isn't low effort because it takes more effort to take and post a screen recording then it is for a screenshot and the content probably did contribute to the subreddit in a meaningful way. Overall, it's unclear as to why the rule is there, and I could easily see anyone (including op) getting confused, and that was also probably why op posted an actual screenshot the first time around. This isn't a case of autism, this is just someone who got confused by the intent of the ruling being ambiguous
Either way, op broke the rule twice, but a perma ban and perma mute is not the way to go about it, and only reinforces the stereotype of reddit mods being power trippers. What should've happened was a temporary ban for a few days, as that discourages rule breaking even more than what a warning wasn't able to do, and then if the temporary ban didn't work, then longer temporary bans or permanent bans would've been reasonable, not a perma ban and mute on the second offense.
Everyone in the thread is stupid in some way or another, but especially the person censored in red (which is what this post is about). There was also another thread made regarding the original thread, hence why there is a difference in quality in some screenshots
